The Lens Stuck in extended position on my kodak easyshare v-550

\015 My kodak easyshare v-550 has its lens stuck extended and wont retract back to turn the camera on, every time i try to turn the camera on, all blue lights flash for about 5-6 seconds and then all lights out, the camera is still and no movement of any kind, tried to turn it on again with the on-off button on top, same symptom. I removed the battery from its compartment, and placed the camera on its charging dock, all blue lights come on flashing for 5-6 seconds and then all out, no movement of any kind, then i pushed the on-off button while the camera on charging dock, started to push all sorts of buttons and i discovered while pushing the shutter button the screen on the camera will display ''error L-83''. I have researched on the internet what is ''error L-83'' on this kodak easyshare v-550 but to no results. zero. could u pls assist me in this problem, wether its something i can handle or the camera will have to go to a proffesional technician. Thank u ladies and gentlemen. appreciate ur assist. right now the camera is off the dock charger and its battery removed.\015

Hi there, welcome to FixYa.

\015\012L-83 is a type of lens error. There are a few different types of errors with causes ranging from a broken gears (they're plastic), to sand or dirt getting in the gears preventing them from turning. So, here are a couple things you can do to fix this yourself before turning it in to shop for repair.
\015\0121) Get an air compressor and put the nozzle up to the space between the lens and the body of the camera and blow it out real good. Then turn the camera over (lens down) and tap the lens on a hard surface. You may have to do this a couple of times.
\015\0122) Press the power button on the camera, and while it's flashing it's lights, bang the side of the camera on the palm of your hand a couple of times. That may free the gear up.
\015\012
\015\012If it's not something blocking the gears from turning, then it could be that the guide pins on the lens may be out of their tracks. If this happens, then the lens will not move at all.
\015\012Press the power button and grab the lens, give it a tug and a twist. Don't be afraid of it, you want to manuever those pins back into their tracks. You should hear a click when they fall back into place. If you hear the click, then stop pulling on it. Power it off and back on to see if the lens retracts.
\015\012
\015\012If these three suggestions won't work for you, then you should turn it in for repair. Perhaps the teeth on the gears are getting stripped off, and it's pieces of the gear themselves that's getting trapped in the other gears.
\015\012Hope this helps you. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z1485 IS, the lens barrel is stuck in the furthest extended position. It was left alone and not operated for several months, though I have replaced the battery. The camera turns on for about 3 seconds at a time, I tried to turn it on several times with the lens barrel inching forward each time. It stopped going forward and has become stuck in what appears to be the furthest-extended position. There does not appear to be any particulates obstructing the lens barrel as far
