No power from batteries

This problem is frequently caused by corroded battery contacts. Remove the batteries and wipe the contacts inside the camera with a clean soft cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper). Remove any corrosion that may have fallen inside the battery compartment during cleaning, then clean and replace the batteries.

The above clears the problem about 90% of the time. Another cause is use of the wrong type of rechargeable batteries. Check your camera's manual. If it calls for Ni-MH batteries, do not use NiCd batteries.

Olympus FE170 digital camera shows battery compartment empty with batteries in place I have the same problem.
