Having problems with your Digital Cameras ?

Hi there, I have a nikon D50 camera and the inbuilt flash unit does not work any more.... it pops up in dark conditions bu tthen fails to fire. The camera will adjust the shutter speed as if the flash was turned off, and the flash doesn't work in any flash mode or any function mode. Could it be the bulb perhaps? I have reset the camera as well to no avail. please help! thanks :)

Hello, and welcome to Fixya..

This is a very common and known issue with the D50 camera by Nikon.

Some buyers flash only works once and then quits.
Its due to the speed of which the flash pops up, it literally breaks the connections on the inside of the camera for the flash itself.

As far as fixing it, there isnt anything you can do personally..

However, Nikon is fully aware of this issue, and they fix the issue for free.

To request a free repair, please go here

http://form.nikonimagesvcapprove.com/

Fill out the form and then return the camera to be fixed. Or, you could purchase and external flash like the SB 600

They sell them here

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002EMY9Y/kenrockwellcom

My recommendation is to turn the camera in to NIkon first.. But keep in mind, the flash issue is due to a faulty design, so even after its fixed, the amount of time the "fix" will last is debatable.

Ultimately, your going to have to either purchase a different camera, or a reliable external flash.

Thank you for using fixya, and if you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

Hi, I've just recieved my nikon d90 back from a repair and service, and although everything appears to be working fine, whenever I want to change shooting modes,( auto, P, M, flash off etc), they only work once I have selected them, and then turned the camera off and back on. In other words I cannot be shooting in the Auto mode and then switch to "flash off auto"....all that happens is that the auto focus works but the shutter will not operate. My Fuji A210 has slowly stop functioning. It will display pictures but in the photo mode it will open the lens and then turn off. I found that if I apply an external voltage to the voltage jack on the outside of the camera and I increase the voltage from 3V to 3.6V this camera works great. Just as it did when new. It seems to me that something in the camera has increased in resistance to cause the internal logic to not function. [email protected]

Just bought my used camera from Salvation Army. I know I shouldn't expect it to work, but it does in a way. I'd like to know why when I turn the camera on, the ready light flashes a few times (7, maybe), but does nothing else. I can't hear inside the camera to see if anything else is trying to function. I hooked the camera up to the computer, and nothing happened. Not sure if this is because I didn't install the CD needed.
