Having problems with your Digital Cameras ?

I have a Panasonic camcorder NV-GS70B which writes to mini DV tapes. I am now finding that on playback of tapes I have recorded it is losing the audio signal on some tapes. Some of these tapes I know originally had an audio signal recorded. Someone has suggested there may be a build up of oxide on the heads which might have been transferred to some of the tapes. I have tried a head cleaning tape (twice) but without effect. I have two concerns: 1) the camera - can it easily be repaired 2)

Hi,

The video tape runs through a path which includes video heads and an audio pick-up head. This audio head reads the magnetic information on the tape and then sends it through an audio circuit for processing. If there are any particles trapped between the surface of the p/u head and the tape it will cause sound corruption, that can be solved with a DV head cleaning tape found at walmart

HOWEVER, I do not think this is your problem. Based on the information you have provided, there is constantly loss of audio signal. This indicates to me you have a fault in the audio circuit itself, a faulty capacitor or i.c. can cause this. Since it has an equally timed on and off cycle it is a circuit problem that will have to be looked at be a repair technician so they can troubleshoot the exact component failure. I am sorry that there is no consumer fix for this particular problem. I recommend checking the warranty information that came with the unit to see if there is any way you can recoup some of the cost of a repair which will be needed

Do not play the Tapes in Damaged camera, you might end up losing the Tape as well.Bad tapes could cause a Fault in Camera.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The VCR orked well the last time I used it a couple of years ago. It has been sitting in the rack for at least two years and was not ever used for more than a couple of weeks since new. I bought it for a video project and never used it after that. Now, when playing tapes, it runs at a speed faster than it was originally recorded at and the tracking lines are everywhere. I used a head cleaning tape but this has not changed anything. I opened the cover and it free of any visible dust and lo
