I would think, that the "Contacts" that the camera uses to talk, and identify, with, maybe dirty or bad. This is a communication error between the lens, and camera. Have you tried "Resetting" you camera, with the lens attached? This may help. Are you sure it is mounted correctly, and all contacts are OK. Try cleaning with a cotton bud, or an ink eraser. If this doesn't fix it. Then I wonder, A: If lens isn't faulty. B: The camera is. You may need to take it to your local camera store, and they maybe able to offer some advise.

A85 Dead During a normal session, switching from picture-taking mode to view mode, the lens would not retract and the picture in the view froze with the current image. I could not turn off the camera. After a while, the batteries got very hot, so I removed them. I took out the CF card. Later, I replaced the batteries and the put the card back in. The camera worked very briefly, but the LCD view would not work, displaying flashing lines on a black background. New batteries didn't help. The camera

White Screen Upon startup lens emerges but when screen appears it is white whereas it normally displays whatever the lens sees. When the shutter button is pressed the camera will focus and take a white picture which can be deleted. The camera does not flash although flash is set to automatic and photo taken in a dark room. Camera flashes (weakly) with flash set to manual on. Lens is unobstructed and appears to be perfectly normal. Camera was not dropped. Batteries have been changed.

Lens stuck My camera won't register to open the lens. I don't know how it was before, but the screen is completely black and it won't take pictures. If I open the lens manually, the screen shows the image, but obviously I cannot take a picture with my thumb across half the lens. Is this fixable, or should I get a new camera?

I am having a problem with my camera. It works in the sense that it turns on and takes pictures. However, the both the digital lcd display and normal finder display remain black, even after removing the lens cap. I let a friend borrow it a little while ago and I suspect they may have changed some settings, but I'm not sure what to look for to fix it. When it takes pictures, they come out looking very distorted and strange. But, it does take pictures, the flash goes off and a picture records. c

Instead the screen stays black, and then the battery starts to get really warm. then i cant turn it on or off, the only way to get the batter to stop heating up, is to take it out of the camera. i can put the battery back in, turn it on again, but it will say no pictures had been taken, and the problem continues every time i try and use it. I have a new (3 weeks) D700 and while taking photos yesterday with camera and a 16-35mm lens, the exposure meter went ape. Pictures taken ok but ERR started to flash where shutter speed reading should be displayed in viewfinder. Tried everything, including resetting to factory settings, detaching and reattaching lens, checking switches, and then went home in despair. At home I switched to a 50mm lens and the problem disappeared. I put the 16-35mm lens back and problem seemed to have disappeared.

I am having problems with the flash working on my camera. It does not seem to matter if it is in automatic or manual modes. When I take a picture in either mode, when a flash is needed, the flash icon just blinks on the display. The camera will not take any photo when this is happening.
