My D70 (which I just bought on ebay) is having problems with AF. At time the AF works fine but then for no reason it refuses to work for hours to days. I have two bodies so I can swap lenses to see that its not the lens. If I switch to manual focus, it the camera works fine. I can see the little pins around the lens fitting retract when I switch the camera to manual. Seems like a problem with the internals that control AF. No other problems are apparent to me. Any suggestions?
Sounds like a contact issue - either they are not making consistently or they are just dirty. I'd start with a good contact cleaner (Radio Shack or photo store) and spray the snot out of both the camera contacts and lense (making VERY sure to protec ... Nikon D70s Digital Camera
Good day, I have a Nikon D1X. The shutter button when slightly depressed should engage the AF in the lens. The lens is a Tamron. The camera Auto Focuses fine when you press either of the two AF buttons on the rear of the camera body. Is there somewhere in the menu that controls this. Thanks, John
You are correct, there is a setting. Press Monitor, then Menu to get to the menu; go to the thitd menu option (looks like a pencil), select option 4 (AF Activation) and set it to ON (Shutter/AF ON). This will solve your problem. ... Nikon D1X Digital Camera
I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT camera using a 75-300mm telephoto lens. My problem with the lens is that at times it is hard to adjust the focus either manually or automatically with the camera. I hear something rattling around inside the lens and at times the lens will not auto-focus and I have to remove the lens and manually twist it to get it back to some normal operation. Is this fixable or do I need a new lens?
It sounds like the lens has been dropped or knocked and is misaligned in the guides.Repair against new lewns is a difficult one as prices vary. I would perhaps consider replacing it with a used one. Before you do borrow a similar lens from some ... Canon Digital Cameras
My 18-55mm lens (came with my K10D) won't focus at all anymore - except if I have a fish eye lens attached to the end of it. Problems since I used manual focus on the base lens - now it won't autofocus or manual focus.

Hi, I've a Sigma 28-105mm aspherical 3.5-5.6 lens. Auto focus does not engage. I can hear the motor trying, but the ring does not turn. When I switch to manual focus, I can turn the ring to focus manually, but I still hear the motor trying to use autofocus. Additionally, sometimes the shutter will not fire in manual focus while the motor is still searching. I've cleaned the contacts, but no joy. I suspect a faulty switch, but that doesn't completely explain the autofocus not engaging. I am
Well, I think you have at least one problem pinpointed, in that I suspect the focusing ring is jammed, and cannot rotate with the electromagnet signals. The other problem might be a faulty auto/manual switch. Of course, check for oxidation and e ... Digital Cameras
I have a canon rebel xsi that is not taking pictures on auto focus. It will take pictures on manual focus, but they're blurry. I changed my lens to a bigger one to see if it was the lens or camera, and it's the camera. I had the same problem with the other lens. I've tried cleaning it & turning the lens focus ring but is still doing it. Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Try cleaning the lens contacts on the camera body and on the lens. This maybe the problem, it is not making contact with the lens zoom motor. ... Digital Cameras
I have a nikon d-40 is there a seeting on it that well let the cameras lens focus when you push the button half way down. I took picture but I had to manual focus I don't know if it the lens or this camera is only manual
Any of the autofocus settings will attempt to focus when the shutter is pressed halfway. What lens are you using? If it doesn't have an internal focus meter, then the D40 won't autofocus with it no matter what. If it does have an internal motor, then ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera
Shutter frame rate drops to about 1 per sec on CH with MB D10 while using any auto focus lens. 14-24,24-70 or 70-200 and an older 20mm auto focus. With no lens or a manual focus, very old 55mm Micro, lens attached frame rate is normal.
Wow, that's weird. Does it do it with the auto-focus switch on the body turned to manual? I shoot a D300 and know pretty much everything about it there is to know and the D700 is basically the same camera with a full frame sensor. The only things I k ... Nikon D700 Digital Camera
I have a Nikon D40 which is coming upto being two years old. Recently I have noticed that the auto-focus will not work. If I manually focus I can still take photos but when auto is engaged it will not even try to focus and therefore will not allow me to take a photo. I have not made any changes to the settings and therefore I am concerned it is a hardware fault. The lens in question is the standard lens supplied with the camera and is the only lens I have so have been unable to check t
The auto motor and most of the electronics for focusing are located inside the lens on this model and the camera communicates with the body via interface contacts. Try cleaning these first. If you do not get auto focus function back the lens will nee ... Nikon Digital Cameras
I have a D90 and I just got, used, a 50 mm f/1.4 D lens. The lens motor sounds like it is working, but only moves the lens a small amount. Not enough to properly auto focus. It will manually focus, but the movement is not as free as another 50 mm lens I compared it to. Yes, I could bring it back, but if there is a simple fix, I'd like to do that.

When using my d80 (no matter what lens is on it) it just keeps trying to focus and will not take the picture. It was fine on Sun and then Tue wham!! I can not think of doing anything to it and no one has touched it. You can hear the motor as the lens is trying to focus. If I focus manual no problem except a lot of the photos may still be blurry (that could be me)

I have a D5000 camera w/ kit lens VR 55-200, less than a year old. Recently and only occasionally what is happening is when I press the shutter release button, the lens won't focus, it won't move in or out and it makes a odd noise, not the usual lens motor noise, but an odd squeaking noise, like it's trying to move but is stuck. The only way to correct it is to either shut the camera off and turn it back on again, or switch to manual focus, then back to auto. The battery is full, so it's not

Canon EOS Rebel XT with EFS 18-55mm lens. Trouble-free for two years. During a weekend of lots of use, suddenly the camera would not autofocus. Switching to manual focus, the camera worked. Then it started working okay in autofocus. Later that day quit altogether. (Would not release shutter even in manual mode.) Removed the lens and cleaned the contacts on both lens and camera, started working okay but only temporary. Went through several cycles of this over the weekend, so I'm not sure

I have a new k20D I have had it less than a week and I can't seem to get the auto focus to work. I can manually focus but when on auto I get the red square for a second and then it goes off it does not move the lens into focus and it does not beep. I am wondering if I have a setting wrong but I reviewed the manual and I don't think I am missing something but maybe I am.
Does your lens have a ring on it with various lens openings marked on it such as 3.5, 22 etc.? If so, it should also have a "A" setting which is where you should have it. Also, I'm assuming your lens is an auto-focus lens. ... Pentax K20D Digital Camera
My Vivitar Series 1 24-70 manual focus ais lens won't work on program in my Nikon FA. I bought both new, but have stored them for a long time. I get the FEE message, which means the lens is not set on the smallest aperture, but it IS set on the smallest aperture. I have tried dismounting and remounti
