Canon 450D Brand new, just got it out of the box and I keep getting Err 99 when I try to shoot. Haven't managed to take any photos yet. I tried 2 different memory cards, cleaned the small gold connector bits in the lens and the camera, took the battery out etc, nothing seems to work

Its a common Error on these kind of cameras, I have never heard of someone who had it so fast. You can try do some adjustments but your best way to fix it is to send it back to Canon, since its brand new.

Memory card errors. I turn it on and get message MEMORY CARD ERROR PLEASE CHECK CARD. Occurs on different cards. Sometimes I can clean the contacts on the card and it will work. Memory Card I just got my new Canon Power Shot G9. The user guide pictures a different memory card then what came with the camera. The guide shows a memory card that has ribbing and a write protection tab. The memory card that came with the camera does not. It is smooth all around except for one squared off corner. I normally use a small 32mb memory card in the olympus D-390 but used an olympus fe-130 over the holidays with a 256mb memory card.
