Having problems with your Digital Cameras ?

On my powerShot SD 800 IS-Lens won't extend and retract properly-Seems to stick-Then camera screen gives me the message "lens error" Restart camera" which does not fix the problem..The last four or five pictures I took immediately before this started were very blurry..Please advise!!

Try starting the camera in > playback or picture view mode, and then go into photo mode extend and retract the lens (zoom) return to
picture viewing mode and press the power button to turn the cam
off.In the future use the > button to start the camera this works for
Nikon cameras( ps Its a good idea to brush or blow the dust out of
the lens area also as preventive maintenance.)
The blurring may be related to ISO Speed
If the lens is fully retracting and closing then brushing or blowing
out the lens area may remedy the problem of seemingly sticking
Hello astric6138,

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to\015\012extend. The camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a\015\012little E18 in the lower-left corner. The lens gets stuck in the\015\012extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to\015\012retract when powered off.

If your camera is still under warranty
, the best thing you can do\015\012is to take it to the nearest official Canon repair shop and Canon should\015\012fix it for free.\015\012

\015\012If your camera is out of warranty, or if Canon refuses to repair\015\012it for free (happens sometimes if for example they suspect the \015\012camera has not been treated properly) you can try some of\015\012the methods listed here to repair it yourself. These simple methods\015\012have helped a lot of people fix their cameras.\015\012

\015\012Before trying any of the suggestions, make sure your Canon has fresh batteries and it is in recording mode.\015\012

\015\0121) Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes,\015\012then put them back in and turn the camera on.

\015\0122) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry\015\012compressed air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the\015\012camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens.\015\012It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should\015\012function fine.

\015\0123) Another method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. It sounds so simple, but very\015\012often in works.

\015\0124) Try forcing the camera lens:\015\012

\015\012Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and \015\012the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to \015\012fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.\015\012

\015\012Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a \015\012"click" as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on.\015\012

\015\012If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts again, do the following. Turn the \015\012camera off. Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently \015\012move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" \015\012as it pops back in place. Power the camera on. \015\012

\015\012Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the largest ring of the lens while turning \015\012the camera on. Listen for a "click". If at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and \015\012off and take lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should slowly start improving. \015\012

\015\0125) If that doesn't work, there is an online guide for dismantling Canon cameras and fixing the E18 error. (NOTE: Try this only if your camera is no longer under warranty!)\015\012\015\012It is a great guide with pictures and it can be found here.

\015\012\015\012Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions,\015\012please feel free to post them here.

When I first bought the camera five years ago. it would take 8 to 10 pictures before batteries needed changed. This kept decreasing over time to 8 pictures maximum, then six pictures, then four pictures. Now I only get 1, sometimes 2, and occasionally 3 pictures before a battery change. 'Zoom Error' Hi, I recently bought a Fuji FinePix s3000 Digital Camera. It took amazing pictures the first month or so, but recently I turned the camera on to find 'Zoom Error' across the LCD screen. I am unable to take pictures, and the lens wont Retract. I was hoping there would be a simple solution to this problem rather than a costly repair, seeing as how it was a very nice camera.
