Having problems with your Digital Cameras ?

I live in the Florida Keys and going to try and take some photos of the supper moon tonight. What settings do you suggest for a Sony SLT-A55V. I tried to use my longer lens last night without a tripod and could not get any detail just a white globe. I will us my 55mm-58mm lens tonight. Can you suggest what settings to use and filters to try. Thank you. Karen Szol [email protected]

Answers :

Take you camera off the automatic exposure setting. Left to itself, the camera will try to make the black sky a middle gray. You want to treat the moon as a landscape under noon sun. If you think about it, that's all it is. The moon is simply a large rock or mountain, lit by the same sun you get at noon. This is where the "Sunny-16" rule comes in. The proper exposure for a full moon is an aperture of f/16 and a shutter speed of 1/ISO. For example, if your ISO is set for 200, the shutter speed should be about 1/200 second. Any equivalent exposure will work as well, for example f/11 at 1/400. You can then review the picture on your display and adjust accordingly. The sky will go pure black, but that's okay. You're not taking a picture of the sky, but of the moon.

I have a rebel xt 350D , using 75-300mm 5.6f lens to do some girls basketball photography inside a gym. Had camera set on: ISO 1600, M mode, 5.6f, 200 shutter speed (that seem to set automatically), used built in flash, Exposure level was in the middle of the chart, auto focus, al servo, continuous shooting, used awb. Got pretty good freeze action shots, with little or no blurring but the photos were dark. Some I could make lighter with photoshop but lost some detail and the contrast was too muc

Unless you were up close and personal, the built-in flash was your problem. Anything past about 15 feet and your picture will be dark. You would have been better off turning the flash off and using available light. Once the flash is off, you can set ... Digital Cameras

Good Morning I went hiking in broad daylight this past weekend and the autofocus would not work. I have a Canon 40D with a TAmron 18-270. I used av, tv, p, m and auto and I could not autofocus the camera. All I could do is to switch to manual focus to get it to work. When the lens was set to AF all you could is hear is it racking back and forth tying to focus. VERY FRUSTRATING.. Any ideas of what it may be or a setting I might have set accidentally. Any help is appreciated. Bob

I have a Fuji FinePix S5100 that used to take great pictures. Now, all pictures are out of focus, including macro, regular and telephoto. I have tried using a tripod and not using a tripod. There is no difference. I have reset the camera to the factory settings and cleaned the lens. Nothing helps.

Dropped Camera. Basically, the thing stopped working. DMC-FZ1 It was dropped from a tripod it landed Lens DOWN. So it kind of smashed into it maybe? But nothing on the outside seems to be actually broken. The lens is crooked, but thats all that seems to be wrong. Yet it won't turn on at all. Maybe if someone could suggest something? Perhaps maybe something needs to be fidgeted around inside? Or is it a better idea if I pay a professional? But whatever the case. Anyone who has any suggestions it

I am having trouble photographing birds. Do I use the telephoto lens or the wide angle lens? I also have a macro lens for my Canon EOS 400D SLR Also what settings do I take them at. I have a tripod but the birds are too quick so they have to be for hand held. I am finding that when taking them with the telephoto lens they are not sharp and the background is blurred and not good. Thank you Val

Use the telephoto lens.. wide angle will tend to distort the image and provide too much detail( distraction) around the object of interest. Bird pictures become more interesting when they are mainly of the bird. So when you look through the lens, zoo ... Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

All of a sudden every picture I take with the 55-200 zoom lens is blurry and slightly out of focus. Pictures with the 18-55 lens are still sharp. I have been using that 55-200 lens for years for sports shots, and have never had any problem. I get the same blurriness shooting in both the auto sports setting and in shutter priority. It is a brand new issue. Could it be the AF servos starting to go in the lens, or am I doing something stupid?

Simplest answer is that you may have accidentally flipped the focus switch (A/M) on the lens to M. This turns off autofocus for that lens (which you might need to do if autofocus just can't resolve the image). Try turning it back to A.Ano ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

I have had my camera about a year and have used it in a variety of settings - it has always been great. About a month ago, i started having focus problems. I checked the settings, even reset to default settings, cleaned the lens....9 times out of 10 it still wont focus. To the best ofmy knowledge it has not been dropped or damaged in any way. any suggestions?

The viewfinder of my Nikon D80 is grayish and blurry when it's off. I cant see a thing when I tried to use my 18-135 mm lens. I don't have a battery to reset it to its factory default settings. I have owned D40 earlier and I could play around with the viewfinder even when the camera was off.

Close-up picture Hi! I purchased my camera to take up close-up pictures of handmade greeting cards. The cards are 4" x 5 1/2" with lots of little details. I'd like to show as much detail as possble. I'm not sure what the best setting are? I've tried using the flash, but the whole picture just glares out, the light bounces off of the card and makes a big glare in the center. Without the flash, the picture is too dark. Can you help me figure out the best setting to use? Or, what kind of lighting

I'm using a Nikon D3100 with a 55-200mm lens, and I'm trying to set my aperture around 1.8 to shoot bokeh, but it won't let me set it lower then 4. I had a 18-55mm lens on earlier, and it wouldn't let me set it lower then 5. My ISO is at 100. Any idea how to set it lower?

You can't set the aperture any lower than the maximum aperture of the lens. This is engraved on the lens. It may say something like f4-6.3 or something similar meaning that f4 is the largest opening of that particular lens. If you find a 55-200mm len ... Nikon D3000 Digital Camera

Hi all, I wonder if you can supply some advice regarding a Sigma17-35mm lens I purchased earlier in the year. Basically if I use the automatic or 'P' setting on my Canon EOS 30D camera the image is over exposed by 1 to 2 stops. If I use the same functions with my Canon 18 -55 kit lens the exposure is correct so I would presume the camera is not causing the problem. The only way I can get a correct exposure with the Sigma lens is to compensate manually for each shot. Please note the exposure p
