Sorry to tell you that this is a common problem. You may be lucky in that the usual case is that the flash gets stuck in the down position and is unusable. BATTERY I have an older DSC-50 which works great...I bought the new W-170 and they both use the NP-BG1 batteries. I have used the newer battery in the DSC-50 camera and now when I try to use the orignal older battery my camera tells me (For use with compatible battery only) and then shuts down. I can still use the new battery in both cameras. I get the same response from the W-170 with the older battery. Battery has been great and has been holding a good charge... Any ideas? Batteries This camera has been the worst digital camera I have ever used.  The pic quality is fine.  The ease of use is fine.  The problem lies in the battery longevity.  Maybe that is not even the right description.  I will put in new batteries and only use my camera for a short time.  The next time I go to use the camera it is not at all uncommon for it to not turn on.  Even though it has new batteries and was not left on, the batteries are dead.  It happens with the rechargeable as well as re

I charged it for 2 hours and I got the same message. has anyone had this type of thing happen? Could it be the battery or am I using the wrong battery type. Please advise. Thanks

When I press the power button for my Olympus FE-190 to turn the camera on nothing happens. I haven't used it for a while so I initially thought that the battery might not have any charge. When I put the battery in the charger the charging light stays on for a few minutes and then goes out. I'm wondering if the battery needs replacing. I don't use the camera very often, have had it for a few years and, stupidly, have a tendancy to leave the battery in it when the camera is not in use.

Well, are your batteries in the right slots, and put in right position? Are the batteries used? Was your camera exposed to water? These might be reasons why this is happening to you. If this isn't a very good solution, I have more details, want them? ... Olympus FE-190 Digital Camera

I have an olympus 'mju' 700 camera which uses li-ion 42b battery and a li-40c charger. Whenever i charge my batteries, the charging light would start flashing (which is not the sign of charging because the light should be still) and when this happens, the battery would not charge. Battery life My AA 3000mah batteries don't last 30 mins before the camera switches itself off, indicating that the batteries are flat. When tested on a multimeter they read 1.24volts. The manual say I should get 300 shots using 2500mah batteries. The batteries have been discharged and charged up many times but still the same problem. I'm using Nimh type batteries that read 1.35v full charge and 1.24v when the camera shuts off. Is this a common fault with this camera ?

Olympus FE-140 I keep having to install new batteries. The batteries die after a short usage time and I always shut my camera off when not in use. The batteries are not 'dead' because I test them but a lot of their juice is used up (about 1/2). Is this normal for this type of camera. They also die if the camera is not used for lets say a couple of weeks. Thanks!

Battery drainage I have had my olympus sp-550 uz for approx 18 months, and was getting around 175 shots even when using zoom a lot. I have been using the same make and type of batteries since I bought the camera.

Olympus e10 problem. Even with new batteries, could only take a couple of shots before the low battery icon came up & camera shut down. Would work fine using mains supply.
