Having problems with your Canon Digital Cameras ?

The auto focus on my 35mm lens is not working - Am desperate as working in remote, dangerous area of Africa

Dear Carol484:

\015\012The autofocus mechanism in your camera and lens is very complicated and can get out of "calibration" causing AF problems. Of course there are external factors that can cause this as well (dust, moisture, shock, etc). In Africa these external factors may come more into play than usual.
\015\012
\015\012Of course the first and obvious remedies to try includes such things as:
\015\012
\015\0121. Cycling your AF/MF a couple of times (switch it back and
\015\012 forth a few times to see if it helps)
\015\0122. Removing your lens from the camera body and cleaning the
\015\012 metal contacts there (preferably with an electrical contact
\015\012 cleaner, but an eraser will do in a pinch)
\015\0123. Performing a hard reset on your camera (Resetting the set-
\015\012 tings to default, removing the batteries for a few minutes,
\015\012 and then reinstalling them)
\015\012
\015\012If none of these help, use your Manual Focus until you can have the lens sent into a Canon Service Center for calibration and possible repair. Good luck.
\015\012
\015\012
\015\012Sincerely,

My nikon d40 wont take a photo with the standard lens unless I switch it to manual but when I put the telephoto lens on it works in both auto and manual. How do I get my standard lens to work in auto (the "a" switch on the lens)? It has worked in auto in the past.

Nikon D80 with a Sigma Lens (80 to 200 I think). In manual mode, often shutter won't release - this was a close up of a hummingbird with a fast shutter speed. Internal light meter showed underexposed, but the background was dark green. Initially, the shutter released, but later would not operate either with a remote, or by manually depressed the shutter release button. Switching back to auto, the camera seemed to work fine, but in this mode could not get the desired shutter speed. In full manual

My D80 was purchased in April 2008 along with the Nikkor 18-200mm VR zoom lens. The camera and lens worked flawlesly until this past week end. The cameral stopped focusing in auto mode with no warning. I did hear a whining noise when I tried a Tamron 11-18mm wide angle lens. The auto focus did not work with that lens either.

Similar to another post, I dropped my Canon Rebel XS (strap caught a chair) and it landed on my tile floor. Everything seems to work fine except the auto focus. Because I thought it landed lens first I bought another 18-55mm lens. However when I put the new lens on the auto focus on does not work on this one either. Any ideas whats on what is going on?

I have a Nikon D40 which is coming upto being two years old. Recently I have noticed that the auto-focus will not work. Not too many things that can do this are simple, but here are a few you can check. First, make sure you aren't too close for the lens to focus. For the 18-55, that's only about 5" from the front of the lens, so I doubt this is the problem. \ ... Nikon D60 Digital Camera

I have a D90 and I just got, used, a 50 mm f/1.4 D lens. The lens motor sounds like it is working, but only moves the lens a small amount. Not enough to properly auto focus. Lens Problem I have a C-8080 and I like it but I'm not sure if it is working 100%. The lens barrel is sloppy from side to side and clunks slightly when moving it quickly. It has been that way since it was new. It has some issues with auto focus as well. It has a hard time focusing on clouds and soft objects at infinity. I called Olympus when I bought the camera and mentioned the sloppy lens barrel and they told me that that is the way there made. It is slow to focus when going from close objects
