Having problems with your Canon Digital Cameras ?

I took a series of photos on my EOS 10D and checked them before shutting the camera down. A few minutes later when I turned the camera on I found the images had disappeared. I have retrieved them using a recovery program but I'd really like to know what I am doing to have this happen.

Hi,

Think of the camera as a smaller brother of your PC. When you checked the series of photos, you were actually accessing the memory storage. The built-in processor of the camera was still reading them, sorting them, cataloging then and other housekeeping functions when power was cutoff. Assuming that by series, you mean a good number of photos, then the camera has not yet finished all of these when you powered off. This in effect is like powering off your PC without exiting properly. Having said this, then it is most likely that the "table of contents" was corrupted. This would explain why you were able to recover the photos but the camera was not able to list them. Again just like a computer storage, all that is required is to format the storage medium be it internal memory or an add-on/extension memeory card.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Please do a full format of the memory card

that is enough to solve this problem

My 4 GB memory card seems to have gone bad. I've used it for months and always fine. When using it last night it just went out. If I have it in my camera my camera will not work. If I take it out the camera will come on. I tried putting it directly in the printer slot and it tells me Memory Card Error. Is there ANY WAY to retrieve my pics off of this card??? Thank you, Mamie

Hi, I got a new ProSpec 4gb flash card and used it last night in my canon 40d. I forgot to format before I initially used it. Tried Digital Photo recovery software and got nothing. Anything at all I can do? I'm tempted to format now and then see if I can

I do not have a solution, but I do have same problem, or a variation of it: filled my ProSpec 2GB, removed it from my Canon G10 to insert a fresh card, then later reinserted the ProSpec to transfer photos to computer. Several tries, and no go. First ... Canon Digital Cameras

I have a Sanyo Xactiphoto and video camera. I fear I have lost 8 Gig of pictures, however, it may be there but I am not accessing it correctly. I know I used up all the memory and I get a message on activating the camera telling me something like 'star two the internal memory". Is it possible that the card is full and the camera has reverted to the internal memory? If so, how do I retrieve the data on the card? Thanks. Nick
