Canon XTi downloading problems

\015 Hi,I've had this problem start a few months ago (of course when I was shooting my first wedding!). I would shoot and the photos looked fine in the LCD, but upon downloading them, they would load incorrectly - looking like negatives, 3/4 of the image would download, the other 1/4 would be black. I can't decide if it's the camera or the memory card. I downloaded photos that I took last weekend on both my home computer and my work computer - they were wonky on my home computer but loaded fine on my work computer, but that is also inconsistent - they've downloaded incorrectly on both computers in the past. Just a little background, I've already sent my camera in for repairs twice before (I've had the camera since May of this year). Any help would be greatly appreciated.\015

I have had a similar problem in the past - I didn't know what was happening, as they looked fine on the camera, but went haywire on downloading. I think it is that the card is faulty - do you have another card you can try? if you take say a dozen pix on one card, of anything at all, the path, or house, or dog, or whatever, then take the second lot of the same shots on the other card. If the card is very cheap, or off shall we say ebay, and is a fake, perish the thought - it will likely not record properly, so that is worth remembering. If it seems too good a bargain to be true, that is likely to be correct - don't even try. I bought a very cheap 8gb memory stick, and when it arrived, it was only capable of recording about 250mb correctly, anything over got scrambled.

Hope this of some help - please let me know if you can

Adrian

Now, I used to take the card out of the camera, and put it in a card reader on the computer, but they are compactflash cards, and need all 30 or so pins to be clean and in constant contact to get the pix over right, and you can not clean the pins without danger of damaging the camera, so the best thing is to use the connecting lead, and the usb port on your computer, and let them download to the computer that way. I have had an 8gb card in my camera for about two years now, and never take it out unless I have to when I fill it up, and need to keep the shots on it till say, the whole wedding is done. I then put the card back, and download over the lead. So far, I have not had any problems with images from the camera when I use the lead. If you change cards a lot, you can actually weaken the prongs in the camera slot - or if you buy a cheap card, and it is a fake, then the holes can be the wrong distance apart, and the pins will snap off and fall into the camera when you try and push the card in - this happened to me. If this should not succeed, then you could try putting the card into the card reader, and use the RescuePro program which comes with the Sandisk cards on a little cd - If you want, I could send you one - let me know- and this will see all the photos on the disk correctly, even if you should have had a problem in viewing them conventionally. It can also retrieve images when you think you have erased them, so is worth a try. However, it cannot read images on a disk which has been reformatted.

Try that over the connecting lead, and see what happens - hopefully, this will correct the problem - it could be that if using a card reader, that it is faulty, and not the camera, or the card

Resolution I have a Canon Rebel XTI. Here is my problem. I took some senior pictures and then downloaded them onto my computer so that I could order them from my lab. The largest size that I could order was a 5x7 because of the resolution. What am I doing wrong. I have my camera set for the highest setting and I am using full auto. Can you tell me what may be affecting the resolution?

I suspect that what you have done is upload the thumbnails to the lab and not the actual picture.(check the sizes in kb) As fertobar says even at the lowest resolution setting the 400d is more than capable of printing out decent 5x7s. ... Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera
