Having problems with your Canon EOS-5D Digital Camera ?

Nothing works!!!!!!! I have been having problems with my 5D for some time now. The problems started with a piece of black felt on the sensor, which I noticed when reviewing my pics on the PC. I opend up the camera to check the sensor only to find that there was a piece of felt loose on the shutter. I sent the camera off to Camera Tech in South Africa for repairs. They are to my knowledge the only Canon appointed center in SA. The camera was repaired and sent back with a bill, as the camera was o

Really sorry to hear all this. The Canon 5D is a wonderful piece of kit and it is not good news to read your problem. It really does sound like the unit is having a multitude of problems. This could be resulting from electical failure inside the camera. From reading through your problems you have passed the Error 99 as well. Generally this would mean hardware faults of some sort. Solutions range from chaging the CF card to Batteries to cleaning the contacts. Clean the contact is one chief remedy and cause of the Error 99 after the 'quick' fixes.

I would say try this again but this time use a rubber on the end of the pencil. Be gentle and careful not to get any dirt into thedody of the camera. Clean all contacts on the 5D Body and on all the lenses. Should this not work it may well be the case that the camera has circuit board problems.

Below is a little guide to help out which was in response to Error 99 from Canon. Hope it does. Again sorry to hear of these troubles. Canon should be more Pro active in this competative world.

It may help some
of you isolate the problem before you post a comment/question.
To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera should be serviced.

My EOS 400D flash sometimes pops up in bright daylight in full auto mode. I sent it back to Cannon who returned it saying no fault found. I then began to think that the problem was the way I held the camera and that I may be obscuring the (light?) sensor near the grip with my hand. After not using the camera for a while I am now taking shots again and the flash pop up problem has re-appeared. I am now sure I am not blocking the sensor. Any ideas?

In full auto mode, the camera tries to use fill flash, when it detects a backlit scene (e.g. a person in front of a window). So this is not a bug, it's a feature! If you don't want the flash to fire, you can push it down and still take the shot. ... Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Hi, I bought the Fujifilm Finepix S2500HD a week back. I have noticed a strange problem with the LCD screen or is it the sensor? In low light situations when you turn the camera on, the screen is not clear and there are disturbances in the form of blue dots across the LCD which appear like a screen refreshing phenomena. So, I've had an Olympus fe-230 for almost two years now.
