Flash pre-firing like mad?

\015 Just purcahsed the Canon Rebel XS. When I go to take a picture, using any mode with flash on, it pre-fires like mad. It just blinks while it focuses. Is this a setting issue? Or a defect?\015

Answers :

It is your camera using the flash to assist in focusing, if it bothers you you can change it in your menus, I have a XTi so yours will differ slightly.
Switch your camera to "P" mode.
Press "Menu" button.
Go to setup menu 3
scroll down to "Custom Functions (C Fn.)"
Press "set".
press to the right until you find "AF - assist beam"
Press "set".
And press up or down.
Set to "Does not emit"
press "set"
Press "menu" button twice.

I was taking test photos around the house with my new camera and the flash won't fire properly (the flash pops up out of the camera but it makes little sparking sounds and flickering on and off). I've tried various modes including auto night etc but it won't stop flickering (just sparking sounds and a flickering flash like a light bulbs does just before it blows).also I have tried taking images using the basic auto mode in a low lit area and the flash pops up but does not fire.

Hello! When I attach the flash on my Nikon D200, it fires even while I'm focusing or just when I touch the trigger button. Any ideas? The flash is not firing like that while not on the camera.

The flash on the camera is being used to throw light for the lens to focus, unless the flash has a setting / the camera has a setting to fix this.... I would assume this as a normal behaviour.\015\012\015\012Just to be sure that i'm think ... Nikon D200 Body Only Digital Camera

Hi, My D80 has suddenly developed a fault, where it registers the flash as open and in use even when its shut. This has the effect of syncing the shutter speed and limiting it to 1 200th in all modes. In addition, whilst the flash button will still change the flash mode using the command dials, it won't open the flash- almost like the camera thinks the flash is already open. I have tried prising open the flash, and it still doesn't fire even when open. There was no indication of a problem previ

I have a Nikon D90 with 18-105 mm lens. Lately, the onboard flash has not been firing even when I try to enforce it by having the flash popped up. It will only fire if I do one of the following: 1) unmount the lens from the camera body and then re-mount it back on, which the flash will fire maybe once or twice and that's it!, or 2) switch on a different lens which definitely works with the flash firing every single time.
