Won't power up even with new batteries - Canon PowerShot A470 Digital Camera

Answers :

The most likely problem is slight corrosion on the battery contacts. This would also be the easiest (and least expensive) to fix. Use a flashlight and very closely examine the battery contacts with a flashlight. It can be easy to miss, and you don't need much corrosion to prevent a good contact. Scrape any corrosion with a sharp edge. The corrosion is like rust and will not just wipe off. You need to expose the fresh metal for contact. Finish by wiping with rubbing alcohol to remove loose corrosion. Replace the batteries. Begin capturing memories!

Powers off my canon powershot sd600 digital camera keeps powering off after about 30 seconds. I have gotten a new battery and that didn't help. On the left hand side before it shuts down it has the letter and numbers E18 on the bottom. The zoom lens is also sticking out and will not retract. There are no error messages on the camera at all. If anyone has a solution please let me know. Thanks!

E18 is a lens error message, the lens is stuck or bent, and wouldn't come out, that's why camera shuts off after it tries to do so at the start, not much you can do, but replace the whole lens assembly ... Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

In May we purchased a Canon Power Shot 590IS. We love the camera, however, battery life with camera is poor at best. With new high energy digital batteries we get approxiamtely 40 - 45 pictures, with 4 differnt manufactures rechargable batteries, we get 12 - 15 pictures, before the batteries require replacement. The camera was retruned to Best Buys where we purchased it aong with an extended warranty. They keep the camera for 10 days, retruned it saying nothing was wrong. Any suggestions?

With new batteries, Canon PowerShot SX120IS camera does not operate - ie- no power. Have tried several new batteries, cleaned terminals, etc. but no luck. Camera has been protected during recent cross country driving trip, not dropped, worked fine. Now - nothing.

I think I'm going to explode if I hear one more "worn out battery" explanation for what seems to be a pretty common complaint. This is my 3rd camera...all ending up with the same problem. I've had the Canon Power Shot A570 for less than a year. Someone suggested changing the settings...but even with brand spanking new batteries, I can't even get it to last long enough to get into the settings. There is clearly a problem here that has NOTHING to do with the blasted batteries.
