Date and time reset at power-on

\015 Every time I turn on my camera, the date and time are reset and I am prompted to set the date and time, again. This also occurs when I switch between photo mode and review mode. \015\012\015\012While the camera is off, or while I am switching modes, I do not remove the batteries or otherwise "mess with" the camera--it seems to reset itself of its own accord.\015\012\015\012Any help would be greatly appreciated; having to fix this every time I try to take pictures is very bothersome and I can't seem to find anything from the manufacturer relevant to the problem.\015\012\015\012Thank you!\015

Canon point and shoot cameras have an internal backup battery (a very small watch battery sized cell). Look under your battery door - do you see a small tab that has "CR1220" or something like that marked on it? If so - this is your backup cell. Just replace it and you will be good to go. If you do not see this, then the backup battery is buried deep inside the camera and would require full disassembly to replace.\015\012\015\012David Millier\015\012Advance Camera Repair
The other reviewer is close but not completely correct.  For the Canon A510 The "date battery" is accessible under a small tab on the side of the camera near where you plug in the communication cable.   (the access point is not inside the main battery compartment, nor is camera disassembly required).   CR1220 is the correct battery for time/date retention.    The instructions for how to do this are in the A510 manual, if your manual is the same issue as mine, you will find the instructions on pages 137-138.   This is something you can do yourself, no need to take it to a repair shop.
