Canon PowerShot A630 power problem: NiMH batteries no longer work

\015 We've had our Canon A630 for a couple of years, and it has worked just fine with either alkaline or NiMH batteries (as per the manual). Recently it started requiring much more frequent battery changes, and now it won't work with NiMH batteries at all. Even brand new alkalines last only a little while. The batteries are NOT being drained. When the camera quits working with a battery set, a different electronic device will indicate they're fully charged. The camera seems to have become much more voltage sensitive. So... is it on the path to complete failure? Should I (would you) risk taking it on vacation? Would a different type of battery help?\015

Answers :

I dont agree, I have tried several different batterie types and the batteries are draining almost instantly with the camera and they are not actually being drained. I think the camera itself is at the end of its life...as I have used rechargeable batteries for the last few years and now they wont even show as being charged on the camera. It stinks Im in your same spot now...no batteries are lasting even the brand new lithium ones...it has nothing to do with the battery "juice" but something with the canon supply power not recognizing/recieving the juice. Im not a canon expert, but I think the problem is more than the battery here Steve and im confused at the solution as well.
We've solved many customer's battery problems by suggesting the use of Energizer Lithium AA batteries. It seems like the makers of alkaline batteries aren't putting as much "juice" in them as they used to. It also seems like cameras become less efficient as they get older. The Energizer Lithiums really work wonders.

We have a Canon Power Shot A570 IS, purchased October 30, 2007. We have purchased new AA-size NiMH batteries for it but the problem remains. Whenever you turn it on it shows "Batteries Low" and shuts itself off. You might be able to take 1 or 2 pictures before the batteries low light comes on. I understand that lithium batteries will not work in this camera. Please advise. Thanks, Eileen

Alkaline are the only batteries to use in digital cameras such as yours. If you still get the same results with either or batteries the capacitor is giving out in the circuitry. The cost to repair this camera outweighs the cost of a new camera ... Digital Cameras

A Canon A570IS will power on and and everything works with external power (3.5-3.7V, 2A. 3rd party) but is dead with batteries (two fresh alkaline or NIMH AAs). Again, lens, flash, storage, LCD, etc. work with external power, but not with batteries. I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

Since the external power works, we need to know, first off, if the battery terminals have continuity with the external power supply contacts. That will tell us an important part of this puzzle. The one hard thing about this problem, is that what ... Canon PowerShot A570 IS Digital Camera
