I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS and I was looking at picture I had taken and the lens was retracted. I switched to the camera mode and the lens started to come out and hit my leg and stopped half way. The lens went dark. I turned it off to retract the lens and then turned it back on. The lens came all the way out but the screen is still black and I could feel the camera and just barely hear it making the noise it makes when the lens is coming out but it was already all the way out. Powershot s410 My s410 is "old" :( but I love it and has been working amazingly over 10,000 photos in the 4 years I've had it. All of a sudden this week-end when I am in auto or manual mode the screen is black - I can't see what I am shooting. What is odd is that if I am in the panoramic mode or video mode the screen works. Even odder is that if I actually take a picture blindly (since the screen is black) it shows up on the display! Help... :) Thanks

Since it is taking a picture, and showing it up afterwards on the display, it definitely sounds like you activated the DISP or DISPLAY button. Canon Powershot A70: LCD screen went blank - I can still access all menu functions (timer, resolution etc), but the screen is completely black otherwise. If i take a picture using the manual view finder, all i get is a completely black photograph. When I turn my 550 PowerShot on, I get a blank screen (black for the most part with white camera symbology around the screen, such as the flash symbol, etc). The screen works, as I can click a picture and see the photo momentarily. I can also view my saved pics. When I select the film mode, the screen looks normal.......meaning it displays a color image of what is in the lens. Have I inadvertently selected a mode which is causing this phenomenon?
