Having problems with your Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera ?

S3 IS lense extended, no power, no display, nothing

\015 I have an S3 IS with the lense extended and absolutely no power. It has new batteries and I also tried plugging it in to a usb port. No lense movement, no display, nothing. It's out of warranty and I haven't opened it up yet. Any thoughts\015

Answers :

It may have popped one of the micro fuses on the board. The problem is really what caused the fuse to pop. That needs to be fixed as well.

It may not be under warrenty but Canon was being resonable on some charges. So it might be worth talking to them to see what they would charge. As well there are a few more repair shops online that also sell the boards. The boards are built using small surface mount parts so unless you have the correct rework tools etc you really don't want to do that.

My problem began with the lense cover not fully opening up. When I gently manually opened it all has been fine. As of yesterday, now when I power on, the entire lense is not extending, or extends and camera states to power on and off. I have tried this numerous time, tried recharging battery, taking battery in and out, to no avail? Any suggestions?

HI, I have a Canon Powershot Sd 790 IS and it totally quit working on me so I took it all apart and then put it back together and now it powers on okay, and the lense opens and extends, but the image is blurry. I'm thinking there is a reset somewhere so that the camera knows when it is focused and then stays that way. Am I right or is there another problem? If I'm right, what do I have to do to reset it? Thanks Marty

This is probably a problem with the focusing ring. The focusing ring is inside the lens assembly, and there is a ribbon connector going to the main board. There's a chance that the connector is slightly misaligned, or loose. Another problem co ... Digital Cameras

Power issues. Just recently I've encountered a problem with my camera. After plugging it into my computer (And not noticing the power surge notification on the desktop while doing so).
