Memory card error - Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

Answers :

Hi,

Can you access the card when you plug it into your PC? If so then you may have to delete the card and reinsert into the camera to reset the card.

If you can't access from either then the card is probably faulty, check the cards contacts are clean. It is very difficult to remove the photos if the card is faulty.

There are many reasons for cards failing...

Some key things to remember are:

1. When removing the card always ensure the camera is switched off, some cameras have the card in the battery compartment to ensure this is the case.

2. Always use the "Safely remove hardware" function before removing from the PC, if you don't know how to do this let me know and I will tell you how

3. Never leave the card out in the open, leave it in the camera or the reader or in its case.

4.Change the batteries on the camera when it tells you they are flat, don't try and get that one last photo as I have seen cards corrupted when the camera shut down due to the battery failing (usually not a terminal condition though)

At the end of the day memory cards are still an electronic device and can fail like any other. There may be a way to extract the photos, here are some ideas:

1. Take the card into a photolab with the units that you can plug your card into and choose your photos, these machines are far more forgiving about memory card problems.

2. If the card is detected when you plug into the computer but you can't see the files then you may be able to clean up the files, using my computer right click on the card, then choose properties and then tools. Select error checking. If you can get to this stage let me know and I will guide you further

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
