Has your camera been left in a damp environment for a while. Or maybe was slighlty wet when you last used it. Perhaps the moisture has found it's way into the lens and it's clouded like steam or maybe the CCD which is the part which takes the light and converts it into electrical signals is on it's way out. I assume you've been through all your menus and checked nothing is switched to where it shouldn't be? Although off hand I can't think of a settting which would cause that problem. Check that you can take pictures both indoors and out without a large drop in picture brightness with the indoor shots. If this is OK it would rule out Iris problems. Have a look into the lens and see if it looks smoky or misty. If it does it could be moisture or even mould.

\015\012The grainy appearance could be the gain ciruitry of the camera compensating for lack of light and boosting you AGC. Whichever way we look at it I'm positive a trip to the repair shop is in order. Try to take it to an authorized Canon repairer if you can.
