I've been having the same problem. It must be because of an iPhoto update because I transferred lots of videos to my Mac via iPhoto all spring and summer and never had this happen.

If you open iPhoto and select preferences and then in the "Connecting Camera Opens" drop down select CameraWindow.

Quit iPhoto and connect your camera to your Mac. A window will pop up and prompt you to push the transfer button on your camera. Push that and your photos and videos will download without using iPhoto.

Hopefully Apple will fix this soon. I really enjoyed the seamless interaction between my Canon SD1000 and iPhoto.
If your computer has a SD card reader, you might be better off putting your memory card into your computer and just copying the data.

Have you made sure your iPhoto is up to date? Perhaps a new update caused this problem.. Maybe you should try an older version of the software. Also, you might want to try other software. (I think you are on a mac?), you might want to try the software that came with the camera, if it works on your computer.
