Missing photos from an SD card

\015 I just took hundreds of photos on a trip and now at home I have put my SD cards into the computer and I am missing 4 days worth of photos!! What do I do???\015

OK, well first, put the SD card back into the camera, now using the camera, can you see the photos on the camera? IF yes, then, get a USB cable, and connect your camera up to the PC, using the software that the camera uses, (You can download this software from Canon, or it should be on the disk that came with your camera). Now see if you can "See" the Pic's. If you can, then simply. copy/paste to the PC. IF you cannot "See" these pic's then I wonder if you haven't been sold a counterfeit SD card, they are very common, unfortunately, these have a special chip inside that "Lies" to the PC, and reports more RAM locations, then there actually, are. You can usually only store about 10 - 20% of the stated amount. If the card isn't a bad one, and you haven't done something incorrectly, then I am at a loss as to what possibly could cause this, apart from what I have related?
The card has likely become corrupted. But it should be no problem at all to get the photos back, but you will need to use recovery software in conjunction with a card reader. There's plenty of freeware to available to use for this. Here are some examples. Again you'll need to use a card reader with the software. They're very inexpensive these days (check Amazon) so that shouldn't be a problem either. Finally AFTER recovering your photos, format the card IN YOUR CAMERA to rejuvenate it and setup the correct Canon file folder format on the card. This should also help prevent this from happening again. This will also totally erase the card, so only do this after recovering the photos.

How could this happen? The missing group is pretty big (100+ photos) and the camera seemed to be operating normally at the time. Any ideas/ explanations/suggestions? Thanks!
