Lens problems... kind of

\015 If I was just taking photos, turned off my camara, and when I turned it back on, the lens only extended a few milimeters with the shutter staying partially closed. The LCD remained off.\015\012\015\012Sounds like a simple issue of the lens being stuck but...\015\012\015\012If I press the 'play' button while the camara is off to look at the photos I have taken, the lens has no problem fully extending with the shutter opening and then retracting just the way it is supposed to. HEY, I REALLY LIKED YOUR PRESENTATION OF YOUR PROBLEM! VERY WELL DONE! I'M GOING TO OFFER A SOLUTION THAT I THINK WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. I THINK YOU NEED TO GO ONLINE TO TO THE CANON WEBSITE AND DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FIRMWARE FOR THE SD750 OR AT LEAST DOWNLOAD A FRESH VERSION, THEN CONNECT YOUR CAMERA TO THE COMPUTER AND SYNCRO THE TWO AND SEE IF THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT THE FIRMWARE HAS BEEN CORRUPTED SOMEHOW AND YOUR CAMERA IS GETTING CONFUSED SIGNALS. RESETTING IT TO FACTORY DEFAULT FIRMWARE SHOULD SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. IF IT DOESN'T THEN I THINK THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A MECHANICAL PROBLEM, BUT RIGHT NOW I FEEL IT IS A FIRMWARE PROBLEM. TRY THIS AND SEE IF THIS DOESN'T WORK.OK? REPLY TO:ARCLIGHT1217--GOOD LUCK!
Hi

Love it, I wish everybody did this thorough of a job when posting a problem! Is the camera out of warranty? If not call up Canon for a warranty repair.

I agree that it could be a software problem, try and see what you can do yourself with what you can find online and also reset the camera to the default settings as well. This gives us a baseline from which to work.

If you can't find a solution with software, then it's time to try hardware. Always remove the battery before you open your camera! You can start by taking the camera apart and re-seating the flex cable for the lens and CCD, it may or may not do anything. Don't turn on the camera without the body on, you don't need to put the screws back in through, just put the body back on first. If this doesn't work then it's time to try a new lens.

You can look for a defective camera online and see if you can make one from the two, or you can find somebody that sells parts and does repairs for a decent price.

Don't bother\015\012trying to send the camera to Canon if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify\015\012what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair\015\012for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

I know of\015\012one very affordable digital camera repair business... because I own it.\015\012The name is Darntoothysam, feel free to check us out, we are on that\015\012big auction website also (I don't plug their name for free), our seller\015\012ID is 'darntoothysam'. If you Google "darntoothysam" you will find us.

We\015\012have your repair listed as a package in our store for about $70. This\015\012covers a new lens, and return shipping of your camera! We even give a\015\01245 day warranty on parts and labor. If you think you can use us then\015\012please check us out, even if you need to ask more questions then please\015\012feel free to contact me.

Hope this helps,

Lens Error I recently had a problem with my Casio QV-R4... every time I'd turn it on, the lens would retract and I'd get a "LENS ERROR" message on the screen. I talked to customer support and they told me that Installing the new version of their firmware, v1.01 would fix this problem. I've since installed the new firmware version, but I am still receiving the lens error. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Please help!!!

I have a new (3 weeks) D700 and while taking photos yesterday with camera and a 16-35mm lens, the exposure meter went ape. Pictures taken ok but ERR started to flash where shutter speed reading should be displayed in viewfinder. Tried everything, including resetting to factory settings, detaching and reattaching lens, checking switches, and then went home in despair. At home I switched to a 50mm lens and the problem disappeared. I put the 16-35mm lens back and problem seemed to have disappeared.
