Having problems with your Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera ?

Hairdressing Shots...Nightmare! Dear Lightingman I have been asked, by a hairdressing aquaintance, to take photos of her models for a competition. I thought it was just casual shots of her doing the work etc. but she wants formal shots with background etc! Now I feel super pressured and am worrying. All I have is a Canon EOS 350D. It has another longer lens which I have never used. I have borrowed two lights from the local life drawing class - dont know if the bulbs are right - which wattage

Problem is that equipment usage is only half the problem. The photographer need to have some knowledge of fashion photography as it pertains to hairstyle and grounding in professional portraiture is helpful as well. It is important to know how to light hair so that the color/tone, texture and detail is properly rendered. There is a compromise involved because in portraiture t you emphasize the facial features and in a more commercial approach you want to emphasize the hair style. There has to be a mid point where the face is nicely flattered by showing how the hair style brings out the face and at the same time the hairstyle style to show as a “product”.

\015\012Check out some of the hairstyle magazines or the posters in the salons- you will notice that theses are professionally done. In competitions, the hairdressers are depending on their photographers for winning images so before undertaking such a job, I would do a bit of soul searching to see if you could step up to the plate a do a good representation for your client.
\015\012
\015\012Again- it is not only a matter of what camera, lens, or lighting gear that you may use- it is more a matter of your skill in placing theses lights and understand exactly how to pose your model.

Fifi a external flash with a umbrela to rebound light off may also be a good idea. Though remember alot of what makes a good photo is the compersition, as an artist I am sure you can handle a good compersition. So try not to stress, relax and enjoy the shoot.

My new Canon G11, purchased in August,2010: 1) The camera cord (to load photos from camera to computer) is no longer interfacing, but the card works (I don't think it is the software as it malunctions on both office PC and home Macpro). Also noticed that sometimes when trying the cord, when I turn camere on, the lens comes out, which never happend when transferring photos via cord 2) I noticed shortly thereafter that the camer no longer "beeps" when the green in-focus boxes appear on hte view

It sounds to me like one or more of the wires in the cord has broken, or there is a problem with the USB port on the computer. Try swapping to the other ports to see if the problem goes away before going forward. If the problem is present ... Canon PowerShot G11 Digital Camera

I have a Canon zoom lens EF-5 18-55mm for my Canon EOS 450D. I am having trouble with my AF. If I set it on AF it will not focus automatically, but if I manually turn the lens for a close up it will then take the picture. Then and only then will the AF for long distance shot come into operation! After taking that shot it reverts back to not focussing. What can I do, if anything, to rectify this malfunction? Cheers Geraint Evans

Hi all, I wonder if you can supply some advice regarding a Sigma17-35mm lens I purchased earlier in the year. Basically if I use the automatic or 'P' setting on my Canon EOS 30D camera the image is over exposed by 1 to 2 stops. If I use the same functions with my Canon 18 -55 kit lens the exposure is correct so I would presume the camera is not causing the problem. The only way I can get a correct exposure with the Sigma lens is to compensate manually for each shot. Please note the exposure p

Try your EOS in AV (aprature value) mode. You should be able to adjust your aperature value in 1/3 or 1/2 steps dependind how you have your Custom Functions set in your camera's menu. Possibly the lens you purchased is for an EOS 35mm. If you use a 3 ... Sigma Digital Cameras

Lens error I keep this Elph in a tiny, padded Halliburton case because the last TWO I bought ended up with broken screens. I never had a problem, though lightly used. Last night I recharged the battery and inserted it. Immediately upon power-up, the lens went out and I got a "Lens error, restart camera" error. I turned it on and off about twenty times, left the battery out overnight: same thing. I jiggled the lens with the same result. Canon tech support told me to take the battery out a

All of a sudden every picture I take with the 55-200 zoom lens is blurry and slightly out of focus. Pictures with the 18-55 lens are still sharp. I have been using that 55-200 lens for years for sports shots, and have never had any problem. I get the same blurriness shooting in both the auto sports setting and in shutter priority. It is a brand new issue. Could it be the AF servos starting to go in the lens, or am I doing something stupid?

Simplest answer is that you may have accidentally flipped the focus switch (A/M) on the lens to M. This turns off autofocus for that lens (which you might need to do if autofocus just can't resolve the image). Try turning it back to A.Ano ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

I have a Canon 20D camera that I use with two lenses. The lens that I have most of my problems with is the 28-70 f2.8 red ring lens.
