I have Nikon D50 (11 months old) with two NIKON lenses - 18-55 (came with camera) and 70-300 (from my old Nikon F65). I have recently noted a spot appear in certain shots (mainly where sky is present) that is there in the same place whichever lens I use. Could this be a dust speck or similar on the CCD? If so, is there an easy way of cleaning the sensor? Regards Roland Zilz UK

Stupidly went to blow dust of the imaging sensor and ended up spitting on the sensor, just a little. Have tried E2 cleaning solution to clean the sensor but the marks from my spit will not go away. Do I need a new sensor and if so roughly how much are we talking?

Well depends, I would take it to a camera shop to rule that out and not mess with it anymore. You looking around $60 for the sensor depending where you live and the shop. But in genral this sensor can be dipped but I would allow them to tell you that ... Sony Alpha DSLR-A300 Digital Camera

I have a panasonic lumix dmc-fz18, it has developed what look like three dust spots on the sensor, its just over two years old, shouldnt this camera be sealed against dust? If the above is comfirmed then I assume the dust was in the camera from new, trouble is no one from panasonic wants to answer my e-mails!

It's impossible to seal against the inevitable dust. The best we can do is protect our cameras as much as possible. If you want to be able to clean a sensor, you need to step up to a DSLR camera. Maybe you're ready...I know you will be very happy wit ... Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 Digital Camera

There is some black unremovable dots (not visible on sensor sirface). Is IMAGE DUST OFF REFERENCE DATA helpful to remove that black dust like dot from image? how can I use that feture?

Black, unremovable dots are probably bad pixels in the sensor. These are parts of the sensor that no longer react to light. If you don't see any issue looking through the viewfinder, then the sensor is messed up. Since you say you don't see anythi ... Nikon D70s Digital Camera

Hello I have a faulty JVC GR-DF470. It seems that some models (not this one), had a malfunctioning CCD Image Sensor. This appears to be the case with this model. JVC will no longer fix the problem free, so I am just concerned as to how much a new Sensor would be? It sounds expensive! Thank you Allan Wilkins

This is not going to be cheap to replace. As soon as you get out of the warrenty period and end up purchasing repair parts from the factory you will usually pay as much as a new camera or very close. Repair parts are priced differently (quite a bit d ... JVC Digital Cameras

There's some dust spots in my pictures with my Nikon D80. I have sent it for sensor cleaning at Nikon centre but seems that the spots cannot be removed as the technician says it's hidden underneath/behind the sensor. I am not sure how true it is or the technician is just plain lazy because I had to tell him where the spots were 3 times before he got the remove most of them. The spots are not visible if I don't scrutinise the pictures though but it sure is irritating knowing there are 1 more spec

I think the problem is with the technician. I suggest you talk to the manager and ask for another technician to help you with this problem. I do not recommend trying to clean the sensor yourself as you may cause more harm than good. ... Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

I bought a Canon 40D from Amazon--through Ace Digital Photo--in a kit with a 17-85mm lens, presumably new. I replaced it recently with the 50D. Now I learn that the camera, which was never outside my home and has about 100 activations was used--quite a lot of use and significant dust on the sensor. I was cheated, obviously. I can see the dust myself and a camera shop told me the camera was used extensively. Well, I am pretty disappointed. The purchase date was around 08/01/2008 and I still

This is not a Canon web site. But I seriously doubt that Canon would send used cameras to its dealers -- where would they get them? More likely one of Ace's former customers returned the camera and Ace re-sold it as new. Your unfortunate situation is ... Canon Digital Cameras

How do I clean the dust off the sensor on my Canon Powershot SD1100IS Is there a tutorial that shows the step by step process to take the camera apart and get to the sensor?

Sensor cleaning is done on DSLR cameras, not on point-and-shoot cameras. If you take it apart without the proper equipment, alignment tools, and not to mention knowledge, you will end up with a paper weight. ... Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital Camera

I have the same problem, and the picture is lower than should be. I turned on the CCD clean function and the CCD sensor won't stay in place, it slides down a bit (which is why the picture is lower). I'm not sure how to fix this or even if I should attempt it.

My wife has a Canon 60D DSLR camera. When she looks through the view finder, it looks like the lens has a speck of dust on it as she can see it in the viewfinder. She has swapped lenses and the spec is still there. She used the auto clean function for the sensor, but the spec hasn't moved, This is almost a brand new camera. Should we clean the sensor by hand? If so, how do you do it?

Re: CCD Sensor

Base on my experience with Sony CCD's, if it was the CCD, you would have NO picture. Odds are that the problem is the auto-focus circuit or the focus motor/gear. Either way it's highly unlikely that a shop could fix it, let alone trying it yourself. ... Sony DSC-T7 Digital Camera
