When taking indoor shots of distances of 20 feet or more with\015\012or without a flash on auto mode I have noticed that the camera has difficulty\015\012focusing on an object. It will try to focus two or three times before failing. It\015\012is like the focusing sensor (if it has one) just cannot see distance.\015\012\015\012 The outdoor shots are\015\012wonderful at any range. Each one is perfect. Am I asking too much from the\015\012camera?\015

Your auto-focus mechanism needs light to see the detail. Most flash units have a pre-flash(usually red) or if your not using flash, the camera has  a kind of red flash light that turns on to provide some light. And even that only reaches out so far.  in a darkened room, try pressing the shutter button down to see if it has this "focus illuminator" (you can usually figure out where it should be on the front of the camera). if it doesn't light in a darkened room, it's probably broken, which means 1 of three things: get it fixed, focus manually, turn on some lights

Nikon 18-200mm VR lens doesn't seem to want to AF focus at full focal length 200mm distance. I bought this lens second hand on ebay and am not certain if there is a problem with this lens. If I try to shoot a picture at full focal length indoors it seem to be fine or relatively close shots but out side, full distance shots it wont work. The focal ring is at full focus and just turns with no change in the view finder but it needs more. We are an orthodontic office using the Nikon D7000 to take facial and intra-oral photos. We are noticing that the intra-oral shots taken from 1-2 feet away have spots over the photo that look like freckles. The facial shots taken from 4-5 feet away do not appear to have the spots; however the camera is having trouble focusing at that distance.

Focusing Problems I just bought the Canon 20d. I shot a wedding with it two weeks ago, and really liked how it performed in low light. However, I noticed a lot of my photos from the low lit reception came back out of focus. (The outdoor ceremony shots were fine). I noticed 3 issues with the images: 1-The main subject, which often was dead center and took up 1/2 to 2/3 of the frame, was often NOT in focus. Rather, the camera selected some point way off to one side or off in the distance som

Back focus My D300 looked like it was focusing behind the subject. I set up 8 objects on the lawn, each one 3 feet behind the other. I mounted my camera on a tripod, selected a shallow depth of field, and shot each object. I found that at close range, my camera focused fine. The farther away the object, the more the camera focused behind the object. I returned the camera to Nikon for repair under warrantee. They made some adjustments. The focus has definitely improved, but I don't think it is qu

I have a Canon zoom lens EF-5 18-55mm for my Canon EOS 450D. I am having trouble with my AF. If I set it on AF it will not focus automatically, but if I manually turn the lens for a close up it will then take the picture. Then and only then will the AF for long distance shot come into operation! After taking that shot it reverts back to not focussing. What can I do, if anything, to rectify this malfunction? Focus problems I have 2 digital cameras already so I know to hold the button down 1/2 way for focusing. The Nikon is new. I HATE manuals. I am having trouble focusing on close up shots. They are either real blurry or slightly out of focus. It seems the shutter speed is so slow that any movement of my hand ruins the shot. I can take a shot of something, a plant for instance, pulled in fairly close. One shot may be ok and the next one is blurry

There are two likely reasons for the blurry pictures. One possibility is, as you surmised, a slow shutter speed. Try mounting the camera on a tripod or other stable support. You might also try turning on the flash. The other reason is focu ... Digital Cameras

I tried to take a shot of the Vanderbilt baseball stadium, and it came out a little soft and out of focus. I was in Apperture priority at F8 to maximize the depth of field, exposure compensation -2/3EV, metered in the field, and tried to focus on the two guys sitting there in the midfield. Tried one shot AF, the manually tweaking it in OIS mode 2. On screen it looked fine, but on the computer screen not so much so. What could I have done to make it better? How can I set the focus to infinity?

Frequently we're getting out-of-focus shots with our 710. It is not clear what setting is producing this. Most of our shots are taken in "reduce blur' mode. We can't figure out why we'll get about 35% of our shots out-of-focus. Are we messing-up the setting somehow?
