Having problems with your HP Photosmart 635 Digital Camera ?

Battery Life My HP Photosmart 635 Digital camera has never operated properly since I got it. The problem is battery life. When I install new alkaline batteries or fully charged nicads, the batties die after 5 minutes wether the camera is on or off. I now use it as a paper weight.

This is a typical problem with these cameras. The culprit is a failed onboard battery. The battery is for retaining the time and date while replacing the removable batteries. If you put batteries in and set the time and date- then remove the batteries for about 30 seconds- put the batteries back in- if it asks you to set the time and date again the onboard battery is no good. If you remove the onboard battery your camera will be very usable and the batteries will last 100 times longer. If you can change the batteries quickly you will not have to set the time and date because there is a small capacitor that will retain a charge, in other words it works better without the battery. I have done this to about 15 of these cameras and all worked great afterwards. You will need a precision philips screwdriver to remove the 7 screws that hold the case together. The onboard battery is small, like a hearing aid battery, mounted on the lower board just behind a piece of brownish cellophane like material. Just cut the material open and look in there between the boards and you will see it. It is mounted flat grap it with some precision long nose pliers or tweezers, wiggle it until the solder joints fail and remove it. Re-assemble and your paperweight is a camera again. If you do it wrong ,which is unlikely, you still have a functioning paperweight.
I have the same camera, had same problems

Fresh, fully charged batteries last about 15 seconds in the camera, with the orange "low battery warning" flashing, then it shuts down and dies! The batteries still read 1.343 Volts. This camera had its power management circuit board replaced under warranty when it was 2 months old, and even so battery life has been dropping off, despite a whole range of new batteries being used.

My Canon powershot SD20 seems to constantly have a drained battery. I have two batteries for it, and each one seems to be good for about five minutes, then the camera says change the battery pack and it shuts off. But when I plug the battery in to charge the green fully charged light comes on within a minute. Are BOTH of the batteries defective, or is this a problem with the camera itself?

Battery life My AA 3000mah batteries don't last 30 mins before the camera switches itself off, indicating that the batteries are flat. When tested on a multimeter they read 1.24volts. The manual say I should get 300 shots using 2500mah batteries. The batteries have been discharged and charged up many times but still the same problem. When I press the power button for my Olympus FE-190 to turn the camera on nothing happens. I haven't used it for a while so I initially thought that the battery might not have any charge. When I put the battery in the charger the charging light stays on for a few minutes and then goes out. I'm wondering if the battery needs replacing. I don't use the camera very often, have had it for a few years and, stupidly, have a tendancy to leave the battery in it when the camera is not in use.
