The lens will not retract. A message says "lens error, restart camera," but the camera will not restart. The camera is a Canon PowerShot S3 IS. I can hear a "whirring" or motor noise when I try to start it, but the lens will not retract and it will not take photos or allow you to review photos. Batteries are just fine. I imagine it's the gears, but I wish I could have it repaired for not a lot of money.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. O ... Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

My kids accidentally dropped my Panazonic Lumix TZ-10 on the floor (not from a great height). The lens at that moment could only half close, but after turning power on and off a few times, now it opens and closes as normal. I can still view photos HOWEVER I cannot take new photos, the screen is black and the photos turn out black. I looked into the lens as it took the photo and there is no movement in there. The camera is still under warranty.

The warranty is unlikely to cover accidental damage but you could check if you have any insurance cover, perhaps in house contents or travel, or you might ask the retailer if he would help under 'goodwill'. It sounds as if the lens extension mechanis ... Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Digital Camera

Accidentally I dropped my Sony DSC S500 camera. Now the shutter is jammed. When i switch on, the lens ejects out and stops half way. While switching off, the lens doesn't come back to normal position, instead it stops in half way ejected position. From the LED display i could see a blurred image. I am able to see all the photos that i have taken so far, but am not able to take any new photos.

I have a Olympus C-750 UltraZoom. I was taking pictures and everything was normal, but then I noticed the viewfinder was blurry. I was walking through a tunnel under a river and I thought the temperature had changed enough to cause the lens to fog up. However, after cleaning the lens, the blurriness was still there. I could look through the photos on the camera and the photos taken prior to noticing the blurriness are clear and look great. After two days of being inside at room temperature,

Photos unread I have an Olympus Stylus 720 SW with the same problem. When I upload photos, some are corrupted and are chopped with parts of the photo misplaced. It has nothing to do with computer as it does this on all computers. I'm not using a reader, but simply uploading VIA USB cable. Some photos are so corrupted, I cannot even get a partial view of the choppy remnant of the photo taken. Could this be a memory card problem or a camera problem? I don't know.

Use a card reader to download your pictures. It may solve the problem. After you do, format the card in the camera. Be sure you use a high quality card. ... Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D IS Digital Camera

My camera is producing spots, or freckle-like or shadow-like spots which are noticable on photos such as a clear blue sky photo. The spots are in the exact same place on photos even when I change to different lens. I know the mirror flips up for a photo, but to be safe, I have cleaned it, but that didn't help anything. Purchased camera 11/07.

I have a Fiji Finepix Z20fd camera, and have approx 350 photos on the memory. Yesterday the message "memory full" appeared when i tried to take a photo so naturally i attempted to delete a some to make more space. However, i could not access any of the pixs that had been saved and they are not on the internal memory. Have they been deleted?? A select few photo's (18) are still showing but they have not been protected or anything so I dont know why some have saved while the majority are missing?

Having pics on both the internal memory and a memory card is asking for trouble. Take out the card and download the internal memory to your computer. Then, go into the menu and find "format" and erase the internal memory. Then, download all the pics ... Fuji Finepix Z20fd Digital Camera

Slider Prob I've had my S30 for quite a while and lately i've had some problem with the slider opening up. Dont know if something got in between the slider and the cam or something. Anyway with some trouble i could still open up the slider and thus start up my cam but then one day when i was trying to close my cam i started to slide it to close. Finally it closed and i slided the slider onto the lens but then the lens started to open up again. But the slider was in the way so the lens opened up

Can you tell me where to purchase a new lens? My daughter dropped my camera, Kodak easy share M1063, and it does not open anymore. Probably a gear is off inside the housing, which I could not open without smaller screwdrivers. I figure it would be easier to replace the whole lens. I have already taken it apart and know that I can replace the lens if I can find one. I had an estimate for an online repairman to fix it for $85 + shipping. For that price I might as well purchase a new camera. Only r

Someone asked me to take photos with my Nikon D90. I have the 18-105mm lens that I got with it. Is this able to take 'wide angle' photos?? I know there are special lenses made specifically for wide angle photos, but is this one capable of doing so?? Thanks for your answer...sorry if I seem so ignorant....I'm new at this. Thanks again!

The 18-105mm lens at the 18mm end of the zoom range is a pretty fair wide-angle lens. Look through the viewfinder and turn the zoom ring (the big wide ring at the front of the lens) one way and then the other. The 105mm end is the view that looks lik ... Nikon D90 Digital Camera with 18-105mm lens

I have a Canon 20D with a IS 70-300mm lens that after a dozen or so photos won't focus/shoot. I just got my hands on both the lens and 20D (bought it from a good friend which says this has never happend before) AND I don't know what the problem. I think that the electrical contact is not working proper. What do you think?

If it won't focus, won't trip the shutter, and sometimes won't turn off, the shutter release switch is defective and needs to be replaced. This is not user replaceable, and will cost about $125 at a repair shop. ... Digital Cameras

I bought this camera on ebay for my daughter- it seemed like a good idea at the time. I have the same model (bought new) & have no problems. The ebay camera went through batteries alarmingly fast and when I changed them they were hot. On our 6th day of ownership a message appeared on the screen that said "Lens error, restart camera" We could not restart the camera b/c it wouldn't do anything - it was dead and the lens won't retract. Does this sound fixable? Does anybody know what would cause t

When using my d80 (no matter what lens is on it) it just keeps trying to focus and will not take the picture. It was fine on Sun and then Tue wham!! I can not think of doing anything to it and no one has touched it. You can hear the motor as the lens is trying to focus.
