Hi there and welcome to FixYa.
\015\012No matter if your the casual user, or someone wanting the best for their investment. Here is the proper way to clean a lens.
\015\012You will need: a Blowerbrush, a microfiber cloth, your breath, and if you managed to get serious grease on your lens; a bottle of good quality lens cleaner (the purer the better).
\015\0121)Get a blowerbrush. In case your unaware of what a blower brush is, It has a bulb on one end and a brush on the other end.
\015\012Brush/blow the dust particles from the lens.
\015\0122) Breath on your lense element so it's foggy.
\015\0123) Wipe the fog off your lens with the cloth. Do not rub the element! You just want to wipe. It may take a few wipes to get it clean.
\015\0124) If after a few wipes, and you still have spots: put a few drops of lens cleaner on the cloth and using circle motion, start wiping from the center of the lens to the outer most part of the lens. Remember...wipe, don't rub.
\015\012When your done, hit it with your breath again and a few wipes of a dry portion of your microfiber cloth.
\015\012That will be about it. Thanks for coming to FixYa.

I have a finepix s6500fd and recently dropped it in a river. The camera has dryed out very well and works, but I have now got water marks on the inside of the lens. How can I get into the camera to clean it?

I have a Canon 40D and tried to use my Sigma 28-300 1:3.5-6.3 DL Hyperzoom lens on it but the camera kept telling me that it could not communicate with the lens and that I should clean the lens contacts. I cleaned the contacts several times (which were not dirty) but still got the same results. The lens is 5 or so years old, is it possible that the lens is not compatible with the 40D?

I applied lens cleaning fluid directly to the lens of my camera, a Fuji F50FD digital compact, but it seems to have leaked into the lens housing. Any photos I now take appear with mutiple fine white streaks across them. Curiously, when I shoot in video mode the footage appears completely unaffected. Is this something that I can fix myself - is it just a question of taking the camera apart, then cleaning the inside with care? Or would the lens housing now to be replaced?

This is not something I would recommend you do without the proper knowledge or alignment tools. You would probably just end up with a brick instead of a camera. Sending it to a repair center would be very expensive. Possibly much more than the camera ... Fuji Finepix F50FD Digital Camera

Hi, how is the best way to clean the lens of the Olympus C-740? I have a fingerprint on it. Is it really true that I have to buy lens cleaner or can I just use a microfiber cloth? Will cleaning it ruin any of the 'covering' on the lens, or is the lens glass? Can you let me know if I need to rub, not rub, or rub in circles, etc? There seems to be a lot of conflicting info on the net. Thanks!
