Having problems with your Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera ?

My Coolpix 8800 only shows start screen " Coolpix ", when I put switch on "on" position, and nothing else . It does not react on any button. To turn it off ,I have to put switch on off and take battery out, only then lens goes back into camerabody. Is there something I can try myself before sending it to repair ?

Loose LCD connectors seems to be the problem- A notorious problem on most Nikon Cameras. To verify this, despite of not being able to see anything try pressing the "Shutter release" button and see if it takes a pic(verify by backing up and deleting all existing pics on the cam and then try the above method). I don't know if your camera is still under warranty, but before I bought my Nikon, I did a little reading up on their camera's, and the coolpix had a lot of complaints , saying that Nikon wouldn't fix them, etc, Anyway, I bought a busted D-50, figuring I could get it repaired for a small amount and have a nice camera, Cost me about $5 more than a brand new camera to fix!!! So, what was I going to do.? I have a brand new camera! Anyway, I found a camera repair place in Atlanta, and they did a great job, no BS, price up front, I can't remember the name, but if you Google Nikon repair in Atlanta, you will find them. I don't think there is any trick to recovering your functions, like switch on and hit shutter 5 times, I know they can do that to a car and a printer, but I don't know about a camera. Hope this helps.

Good Day. I dropped my Nikon Coolpix L16 camera onto a table. Since then when i switch the device on the lens goes out about a quarter and the goes back in and i get a lens error message. I noticed that when the lens goes out it bends to the right(looking from the top) and gets stuck by something. When i pull the lens a little to the left while switching it on everything works fine. A very small metal part came out of the camera. Any ideas? is it repairable?

I have a new (3 weeks) D700 and while taking photos yesterday with camera and a 16-35mm lens, the exposure meter went ape. Pictures taken ok but ERR started to flash where shutter speed reading should be displayed in viewfinder. Tried everything, including resetting to factory settings, detaching and reattaching lens, checking switches, and then went home in despair. At home I switched to a 50mm lens and the problem disappeared. I put the 16-35mm lens back and problem seemed to have disappeared.

Camera lens movement mechanism seems to be damaged, as when switched on, the camera lens does not extend out completely and the object appears blurred on the screen. Similarly when switched off, the lens does not retract back completely and it needs a manual push to put it in a little more. But even then it does not go in fully. Rest of the functions are working well. The damage is the result of an accidental body weight going on the camera, when it was in on condition.
