"Battery exhausted" message with good batteries

\015 Had my Coolpix L18 for 8 months and loved it. Went to use in last night and it gave the message "Battery exhausted." Switched out batteries (more than 2 new sets) and make sure the contacts are clean and no residue anywhere. Still no luck. Do I need to send it in under the warranty?\015
