Having problems with your Nikon Coolpix S4 Digital Camera ?

I am getting a blue tint in all my pictures with or without the flash

Hello. thanks for selecting fixya! Personally I really like the Nikon Coolpix. It appears that you have inadvertantly selected an option which gives the blue cast to all of your pictures. Let me show you:
\015\012
\015\012he Coolpix S4 has the standard 2005 Nikon menu system. There aren't too many options to worry about and a description is available for each item by moving the zoom controller toward you. The items in the record menu include:
\015\012
    \015\012
  • Image mode (see above chart)
  • \015\012
  • White balance (Auto, preset, daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, cloudy, flash) - see below
  • \015\012
  • Exposure compensation (-2EV to +2EV, 1/3EV increments)
  • \015\012
  • Continuous (Single, continuous, multi-shot 16, interval timer) - see below
  • \015\012
  • Best Shot Selector (on/off) - see below
  • \015\012
  • Sensitivity [ISO] (Auto, 50, 100, 200, 400)
  • \015\012
  • Color options (Standard, vivid, black and white, sepia, cyanotype [blue cast])
\015\012Take a look at the color options. If you change yours backfrom cyanotype [blue cast] to standard or vivid you will be all aok again!
Hi,\015\012
\015\012Without some detailed information on how the unit processes video vs. still images, it won't be possible to say for sure, BUT....

The video resolution is processed at a much lower megapixel setting than still pictures. It may be that the defect in the sensor that is causing the lines is on a section of the sensor that is either not used in video mode, or that the software is processing out the defect when it doesn't need all the pixels to give you an image. I think the first is more likely. In video mode, the camera has to run at a lower resolution so that the electronics can store information fast enough to give you video, so it uses a lower resolution. Since it's using the same sensor, it has to either ignore some of the pixels or just not sample them.

If it is the sensor (this is most likely but can't be sure without testing it), then the only way to correct would be a new sensor. It could also be a bad wiring connection, but either way you'd need to get inside to fix. That would be expensive.

I think you should try to use a lower resolution setting and see if maybe that will eliminate the pixels that aren't working. You won't be able to get the highest resolution from the camera, but megapixels are overrated. If you can run it at 3 megapixels or more, you'll be able to do just about anything with it.

\015\012Let me know, if needed further assistance.\015\012
\015\012Hope i helped you.\015\012

Flash has stopped working on my Nikon D40. I've tried a factory reset, tried to get to the flash setting but that menu option is no longer available (highlighted) in any mode. I have a Nikon Coolpix L110 and the pictures have a yellow tint when taken inside. I've noticed the yellow tint varies when I point the camera to different areas in the room.
