Having problems with your Nikon Coolpix S50 Digital Camera ?

Nikon Coolpix S50 has screwey autofocus when I shoot close-up. I select my subject, center it within my frame, depress the shapsot button half-way in order to initiate the autofocus function... The camera then begins to slide between out-of-focus, to in-focus, then keeps on going to out of focus again, and then slides "back" to an out of focus position! I understand that it is "looking" for the sharpest image as it does this--- but what it consistently selects is NOT the sharpest image! Ide

Answers :

First off what do you mean by screwey autofocus? And how close up is close up? Have you tried changing the AF assist settings?
k Autofocus
Autofocus may not perform as expected in the following situations:
• Subject is very dark
• Objects of sharply differing brightness are included in the scene (e.g., the sun is behind the
subject and is in deep shadow)
• No contrast between the subject and surroundings (e.g., when the subject is standing in
front of a white wall, wearing a white shirt)
• Several objects are at different distances from the camera (e.g., the subject is inside a cage)
• Subject is moving rapidly
In the situations noted above, try pressing the shutter-release button halfway to refocus several
times, or use focus lock (c 99).
l AF-assist Illuminator and Flash
If the subject is poorly lit, the AF-assist illuminator may light by pressing the shutter-release
button halfway, or the flash may fire by pressing the shutter-release button all the way down.

Sometimes the autofocus doesn't work. It is switched to af. When I turn the camera on it will normally focus but after 1 or a couple of pictures it will not autofocus. If I move the switch to Manual I can take the picture and then if I move the switch back to m/a it will focus and keep focusing and I can take a few few more frames then then the auto cocus stops working again and I have to switch back to M and so on. I never know when it wount work. Thank you.

Good Morning I went hiking in broad daylight this past weekend and the autofocus would not work. I have a Canon 40D with a TAmron 18-270. I used av, tv, p, m and auto and I could not autofocus the camera. All I could do is to switch to manual focus to get it to work. When the lens was set to AF all you could is hear is it racking back and forth tying to focus. VERY FRUSTRATING.. Any ideas of what it may be or a setting I might have set accidentally. Any help is appreciated. Bob

The image in the viewfinder is out of focus. The autofocus feature goes back and fourth and when it stops it is usually out of focus. During this process it makes a squeaky sound. I have reset the camera, reset the lens (AF S Nikkor), and tried the camera in all of its shooting modes.

I bought a second hand d70s. it seems to have a problem. the shutter release button does not seem to do anything when pressed half way (like auto focus). My Canon digital rebel will not autofocus correctly. My camera has 7 points autofocus, but it will only autofocus on the far right point. All other points are not used. I have had the camera for 14 months and the problem just began. If I want to focus on anything in the left to center of the field of vision, I cannot do it. However, the lens focuses manually very well. Why won't my camera focus on other points than the far right one?

Focus malfunction I have been shooting with my D70 for a little over a year now with absolutely no problems. I shot with it last weekend with no problems. However, yesterady when I took my camera out to use it I realized that my autofocus single area option won't let me change from one focus area point to another. It is stuck on the center focus area. Even stranger when I tested the autofocus on the closest subject mode it is capable of locking on each of the five focus points. Does anybody know

Hi, I've a Sigma 28-105mm aspherical 3.5-5.6 lens. Auto focus does not engage. I can hear the motor trying, but the ring does not turn. When I switch to manual focus, I can turn the ring to focus manually, but I still hear the motor trying to use autofocus. Additionally, sometimes the shutter will not fire in manual focus while the motor is still searching. I've cleaned the contacts, but no joy. Hi there. I suddenly have a problem focusing my canon digital rebel xt. I have done nothing different to it, but cannot get it to focus AT ALL now.
