Nikon D100 program mode overexposure

\015 When I attempt to use the program mode on my D100, it completely overexposes the photo to where it is practically white. Is there some way to adjust it? I don't have the money or time at this point to send it away for repair and am wondering if it is something that I can do myself.\015\012\015

Inside the lens mount is the stop down lever. As you look at the camera, it is at 9 O'clock. Move it a couple of times up and down. It is probably stuck.
