Having problems with your Nikon D40 Digital Camera with 18-135mm lens ?

I just bought a Nikon D40. The monitor shuts off after being on for only 5 secs. I Have tried changing out the battery with a fully charged one and the problem persists. Is there a way to set the duration of the monitor being on? Is there some sort of power saver option? Thanx Skip B

Answers :

Yes , it is a power saver. I remember there being a way to change it in the menus. Note: the "monitor" stays on for different times depending on mode. There is a manual on line. I had better luck just playing with the menus. The menu your looking for is easily over looked.

I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ35.. I adore this camera, it is light, takes great photos and easy to learn. However, awhile back I encountered a problem with the setting's dial. It is not lining up correctly and now does not set to certain modes, or it skips one. This is particularly the case with the Scene setting and the close up setting. The camera is still under warrenty since I have not even had it 8 months. I was wondering if this is something that a camera repair place could adjust simply. I

Every time I turn on my Canon A540 Powershot I get the black date/time screen. The date/time is all zero (the photo properties default to 1 Jan 1980) and I have to either enter the date/time or press Func/Set to clear the screen. Whichever option I take.. the same thing happens every time. Is there a way to make the date/time "stick"? I first noticed the problem when one set of batteries was low.. but new batteries didn't solve it. Any ideas? Camera doesn't have a lot of miles..

My samsung digimax u-ca 401 does not capture pictures as they are. The monitor shows dark images even outside and its not to do with the settings. Pretty much constant but sometimes intermittant problem of the camera fe-210 screen goes black. all functions appear to be normal but it does not see through the lens. So everything is black on the pictures taken. It's like the opening is shut. Sometimes it will work when first turned on for one or maybe two exposures. then it goes black and may stay that way even if turned on and off or changing any of the settings.

My canon powershot camera goes to set the date and time every time I turn it on. I set the date and time, take a few pictures, turn off the camera, turn it back on again and it ask for the date and time to be set again. Appreciation CanadaBruce I was browsing the website since I have a Nikon D80. Considering the fact that Nikon sells this as an amateur camera (meaning not a cheap solution), I suspect their Q&A and test wings are probably getting a lot of flak internally for the problems its users experience intermittently. Besides the F-err with 18-135 lens, I have not experienced other problems yet. I hope and pray to whatever powers there be it stays that way. One way I have tried to get around this problem i

Battery Problem My 18-month-old Canon A70 is giving "change the battery pack" message and turning off constantly, even though I have fully charged three different sets of new rechargeable batteries and rotate them as soon as the message comes on. Sometimes with this message I pull out one charged set and put the same back in, and it works fine for quite awhile, then repeats later. I imagine this is a problem in the camera battery power circuit or something. Never happens when plugged into the co

I bought a second hand d70s. it seems to have a problem. the shutter release button does not seem to do anything when pressed half way (like auto focus). I can only get autofocus to work if i program AE-L/AF-L button to AF-ON. I press the AE-L/AF-L button on the back, then press the shutter to take the shot. And if i set the AE Lock On, pressing the shutter button half way does not lock the exposure setting. so there seems to be an issue with the shutter button itself...is there an easy fi

I purchased this camera yesterday. I tried to download pictures and got all the ARC products download which I really do not want and then could not find the way to just download the photos onto my PC. We did have the camera set to the USB setting on the camera. Does this not have a simple way to just download the pictures? I have had KoDak easyshare cameras and a Canon and never had this problem before.

I think I'm going to explode if I hear one more "worn out battery" explanation for what seems to be a pretty common complaint. This is my 3rd camera...all ending up with the same problem. I've had the Canon Power Shot A570 for less than a year. Someone suggested changing the settings...but even with brand spanking new batteries, I can't even get it to last long enough to get into the settings. There is clearly a problem here that has NOTHING to do with the blasted batteries.

Sounds like you have a faulty board in the camera or it could be something as simple as a software upgrade, I know some of the Fuji Hine Pix had the same problem and it was the software. Take it back to the Canon. ... Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

W1 metering I am fairly new to this camera and I was wondering which settings most of you use. The multipoint AF or the Center AF for focus ? The multi-pattern metering or the spot metering ? Most common ISO rating ? The image size 5M or 3.2M ? Also I found that you can't have the camera set one way for the M mode and another way for the P mode. Sorryto ask so much. Richard

Lens problem Hi. I have an Olympus FE-190 digital camera. not sure what happened, but now there is a problem with the lens. when i turn on the camera, the lens extends, retracts, several times (trying to find "home" I think). Image on the display screen is blurry. it WILL take a very blurry picture. there is a faint 'ratcheting" sound when the lens is fully extended. is there a way to 're-set" or calibrate the lens extension setting or focus? thanks very much for your assistance.

Color problem The same issue as the one who asked about the color problem. We bought this Olympus FE-280 Digital Camera March 2008 i think. Over exposure The exposure settings on the camera have suddenly become fixed - I can't change them either through fixing shutter speed, OEV, or any other settings. Even tried a factory reset by selecting 'initialize' from the menu, but the problem persists. High or low exposure settings are visible on the viewfinder (i.e. changing the settings shows the picture getting darker or lighter on the screen), but once the picture is shot, it's fixed at an overexposed state.

I can't get the photos in my Pentax OptioS6 to download into my computer. When I try, the computer says that it does not recognize what kind of camera it is connected to. By the way, I checked the trouble shooting guide & thought that the problem may be that the USB connection setting might have been set to PictBridge instead of PC -- but no, it is set correctly. AF problem Last week I took some pics that needed the flash turned off. I did that and took the pics with no problem. I turned the flash setting back to "auto" afterwards. It would take one picture and then would be frozen (no zoom, no picture taking, but the screen would stay on). If I turn it back on I can then ta
