Having problems with your Nikon D40 Digital Camera with G-II 18-55mm Lens ?

Camera has auto-deleted pics twice

\015 Hi, Have a new Nikon D40x with 2gig memory card. Already had 200+ pics on it that have been saved to pc but not erased from camera. Taking dozens of new pics today and upon review the new pics had disappeared, old pics still there. Did not delete or format the card. Continued taking more pics without trouble. Is this a problem with the camera? Can the missing pics be recovered after taking additional shots? This is the second time in a month this camera has auto-deleted a batch of pics. Thanks\015

You want to put the memory card in computer to see if they are in a new folder. The camera will create a new folder at times. I have seen that if you scroll to the end of the pics in one folder it will roll to the next one. So what you would see is #/200 and after the 200th picture you would get to the next #/24 if you had 200 pics in the first folder and 24 on the second.
I've had similar problems with other cameras. The problem is not the camera, however, it is the sim card. If you remove the sim card and place it in the card reader on the computer, the contacts on the card eventually wear out. What it sounds like is that your new pics were not saved to the card due to poor contact. If this is the case, unfortunately, nothing is recoverable as nothing was saved. A possible short term fix is to remove the sim card and scrub the contacts with a pencil eraser. A long term solution is to get a new sim card and leave it in the camera and transfer pics using a USB connection from the camera to your computer. I hope this helps.
