\015\012I have found when the camera is too close to the object it will not take the picture. Try backing up just a little bit and taking the shot again. This is most frustrating as I would like to get closer to my objects to take pictures. I was told I needed a lens with more zoom as when I get too close it doesn't allow the light to filter properly not allowing the camera to take the picture. Hope this works for you.

Dropped camera Camera dropped while lens was out. Lens was knocked crooked. My son attempted to push the lens back to center it and we heard a piece on the right side click or break. Now the lens wobbles, but retracts. However, the lens comes out halfway between wide and telephoto, have to move it back and forth, or shut off and sometimes it comes out to wide. I try again and nothing happens. I try to refocus, but it does not help. I have to turn it off and on again to get it to work and click to take the picture. I have a Nikon D90 with a new Extreme III memory card. I can out in bright sun and often it won't click even though it has focused. My D40 does not shut off properly, and sometimes turns on by itself. It seems to be getting worse, and sometimes I can only get it to turn off by putting the on/off switch in between the two settings. Also, sometimes if the camera gets left on I have trouble taking pictures the next time I go to use it (even if the battery is still charged).

Obviously something is wrong with the on-off switch. I would have it serviced. ... Nikon D40 Digital Camera with G-II 18-55mm Lens
