Whenever I try to take a picture using "auto focus" option with my Nikon D40, (using the standard lens that came w/the camera), it makes a clicking sound and will not auto focus. But if I use it in manual mode it does not click. What could be the problem?

This camera focuses the lens by sending an electronic signal to it. If you hear a clicking sound, the lens is receiving the signal, but not responding. I suggest you take the camera & lens to a local photo store & ask if they could let you mount anot ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

I have a new D40 and I have had the same problem twice already on two separate occasions. I go to click to take a picture, and it does not take. Nothing happens at all. I try again and nothing happens. I try to refocus, but it does not help. I have to turn it off and on again to get it to work and click to take the picture. Thinking of if I should get the D3000 instead. Any thoughts on that and why this happens?

Dark photos I am a new Nikon user and have the D80. This is way more camera than I will ever need. I can not take pictures without them being dark not even in the auto mode. This is inside or outside I have two lenses and have switched them and it's still dark. I was able to change the exposer to get them lighter but would think you could take pictures in auto that would be fine.

My nikon d40 dropped on concrete, but there was no physical damage. However, now it wont take pictures anymore and gives a *whirring* sound when i click on the picture snap button. Any advise???

I have this problem too. Nikon D70 will snap shutter halfway and takes another push on the button to open it back up again. No picture results. not on time delay I don't think as it does not buzz and eventually open up. Err message after first half click.

Is it not opening up the shutter to take the images? Please elaborate the issue in some more detail. ... Nikon D70s Digital Camera

Flash has stopped working on my Nikon D40. I've tried a factory reset, tried to get to the flash setting but that menu option is no longer available (highlighted) in any mode. I'm thinking it's broken and not a setting thing. Everything else works fine and it still takes pictures just without the flash. The flash pops up when needed but no flash obviously.

There's a common problem in the flash arm. I found this link that shows a simple repair. If you use this and make the repair yourself, understand that you will void your warranty if you have one. I had a similar problem recently with my D-40 and the 18-135 Nikkor zoom lens. When I put the kit lens back on, it worked fine so it turned out to be a problem with the lens. I took it back to the store and since it is less than a year old they are s ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

Taking pictures I have loved using my camera until it stopped being able to take pictures. Whenever I try to take a picture, the red light goes on a few times but the camera never flashes, clicks, or takes the picture. I can still look at my pictures but I can't take them. What is wrong and what should I do?

This could be due to a jammed lens element preventing the camera from focusing properly. When you push the button the camera attempts to focus the image before it takes the picture. Nikon D70 I have a Nikon D70, been using it for 3 years now without a problem up until 2 months ago when I tried to take a picture the screen read "CHG" or "Charge." I assumed it meant the battery. I charged the battery for a full day thinking this would work and of course it didn't. I did the same thing for the next three days with no luck. I eventually bought a new battery and still the word "CHG" or "Charge" shows up on the screen and doesn't allow me to take any pictures. Would you happen to

Black screen We are having the problem many others are having on this website. We were in the middle of our trip to Monterey this weekend when the screen went completely black and no more pictures can be taken. We could use the menu & could look at pictures already taken, so we have to conclude that the LCD is NOT the actual problem; however, we aren't sure why we can't take anymore pictures. We dumped all the pictures on the camera onto our computer thinking it might be "full", but still no

It gives me a flashing F--- saying that I don't have a lense attached but I have a Tamron 18-270 on. It also gives me a r17 or21 reading in the ISO/ picture count box. If I turn the camera off, take out the battery, or zoom in and out then sometimes it will take one picture and then stall again. I am loosing some great shots. Help.
