Nikon D40 vertical focus problem

\015 I have 1 year old D40, all horizontal pictures come out sharp, but all vertical pics are blurry, I have changes the stock lens 18-55 to the 18-105 VR, but the problem is still there. Is it the faulty focus system? Any fix? Thanks\015

Answers :

Make sure the camera is using the appropriate focus sensor.

Does the problem occur when you focus manually?

Are you handholding the camera? Many people don't hold the camera as steady when holding it vertically. Try putting the camera on a tripod or other steady surface and see what happens.

Whenever I try to take a picture using "auto focus" option with my Nikon D40, (using the standard lens that came w/the camera), it makes a clicking sound and will not auto focus. But if I use it in manual mode it does not click. What could be the problem?

This camera focuses the lens by sending an electronic signal to it. If you hear a clicking sound, the lens is receiving the signal, but not responding. I suggest you take the camera & lens to a local photo store & ask if they could let you mount anot ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

Chances are good that it's not your camera, but your lens. I have a Nikon Coolpix L110. When I take pictures, they often look yellow. I can get the color to correct by focusing on a nearby area, but when I return to the shot I want to take, the color almost always goes back to a yellowish cast. Focus problems I have 2 digital cameras already so I know to hold the button down 1/2 way for focusing. The Nikon is new. I HATE manuals. I am having trouble focusing on close up shots. They are either real blurry or slightly out of focus. It seems the shutter speed is so slow that any movement of my hand ruins the shot. I can take a shot of something, a plant for instance, pulled in fairly close. One shot may be ok and the next one is blurry

There are two likely reasons for the blurry pictures. One possibility is, as you surmised, a slow shutter speed. Try mounting the camera on a tripod or other stable support. You might also try turning on the flash. The other reason is focu ... Digital Cameras

Focus problem My grandson just received a new Nikon camera for Christmas. He assembled the wide angle lens prior to doing any other set up. Now he can't focus it without the wide angle lens in place. The camera has auto-focus. Can you advise a fix? We tried the Reset button on the side ,but this didn't fix it. Thanks

The factory presets would not have been affected by your grandson doing as you describe. Depending on what other lenses he might be trying to use, many have a separate switch located on the barrel of the lens to turn auto focus on or off. ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

My Nikon D5000 gives out blurry pictures and the auto focus sometimes does not work. I've sent the lens to be examined & repaired and today I tested it again after being repaired. Today I took a picture of a person standing in front of a wooden fence and instead of focusing on the person (which was my intention), the camera focused on the fence. The result: The fence is sharp but the person is blurry. What causes this? Is it the lens or the body? How can I solve these problems?
