Having problems with your Nikon D40x Digital Camera ?

I have a Nikon D40x. Camera works fine, but sometimes it does not shoot a picture when shutter is depressed. It will just beep and shutter will not go. This very frustrating as I've lost many shots. Usually a re-framing/re-focus will fix it. Is there a setting to avoid this? Thanks.

Answers :

There are a few factors that don't allow a camera to focus. If the lighting conditions are low the camera will have trouble due to the light level, especially when you are using a slow lens (with an aperture smaller than f3.5).
\015\012The subject could be moving too fast to get a focus lock.
\015\012Or there is not enough contrast on the focus point. A focus sensor needs a certain level of contrast to work, experiment by pointing the camera at a blank wall and try to focus. Then move to a door frame or a picture on the wall and you find focusing easier.
I, myself would go into the main menu and set the camera back to factory defaults. Good luck my friend, Dana

Focus Problem I recently bought Olympus C-750. The real problem i have with it so far is that when I point the camera towrds the subject, its focus is adjusted automatically and the subject looks very focused and clear, but when i press the shutter button, the camera re-focuses and makes the subject blurr and in the end pictures come out very blurry. Kindly help me out with that, i.e: do i need to do some setting to avoid that??? and plus i cannot find the manuual focus option in the camera.

I have the C740, which I believe works very similarly if not identically. Unless you have the camera in full time auto focus, I don't believe it actually focuses on the subject until you've pressed the shutter button half way. Until then, the subject ... Overexposed photos?? when i hit my shutter release button, sometimes the flash doesn't pop up and the view finder goes black. (it's like the camera is taking a picture but when I release my finger from the shutter release button it doesn't release) The only way to "get out of it" is to turn the camera off then back on. when i go to playback...it is a white picture. are my settings messed up and how do i avoid this in the future. Many picture moments are missed because of this!

The view finder "going black" on an SLR is caused by the mirror being up, which is also when the camera is actually taking the picture! The mirror sends the light from the lens to either the viewfinder or the sensor. When it's down, the light goes ... Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

I recently bought the latest Fujifilm Finepix AX210 digital camera (12 MegaPixels). However, it always says focus error upon switching on and then makes these funny noises endlessly. The few pictures I've taken have been by chance and I've lost valuable memories. Very frustrating.

I have a rebel xt 350D , using 75-300mm 5.6f lens to do some girls basketball photography inside a gym. Had camera set on: ISO 1600, M mode, 5.6f, 200 shutter speed (that seem to set automatically), used built in flash, Exposure level was in the middle of the chart, auto focus, al servo, continuous shooting, used awb. Got pretty good freeze action shots, with little or no blurring but the photos were dark. Some I could make lighter with photoshop but lost some detail and the contrast was too muc

Unless you were up close and personal, the built-in flash was your problem. Anything past about 15 feet and your picture will be dark. You would have been better off turning the flash off and using available light. Once the flash is off, you can set ... Digital Cameras

My LCD dose not display anything. If I take a picture nothing shows up at all only a black screen. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is about 2 and half years old. Please help and many thanks My shutter button has popped off and I use a chair pin and tape. It works ok but you do not get the half press focus option only staight to picture.

Unless it has recently been dropped or the screen cracked, the LCD power drive circuit has failed. Your batteries sound OK if it is taking pictures. 2 and a half years is not an unreasonable life for this camera. I would spend my money and time wo ... Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 Digital Camera

Bad image Hello to you all... My S1 IS from one moment to another has shown a problem... I can point e focus normally but after de shoot the preview is very BAD and the image saved is the same of the previewd one... The pictures have real bad resolution and light and many strips with rainbow colored edges... Some people told me something about the shutter curtain or something like that... It makes any sense?

I own a Nikon D50 and the 55-200 lens will not autofocus (lens continually extends then retracts but never locks into focus). Ive read that depressing the lens release button whilst holding the lens in place and swivelling the lens a couple of times sometimes works (cleans muck off the sensors). I tried this but to no avail. Any halp would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Why don't you just clean the sensors properly? Remove the lens and clean the contacts on both the camera body and the lens with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. There's a 50-50 chance something else is causing your problem but try ... Nikon D50 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Is there the equiv of "focus priority shutter release" Comments: Jan 09, 2010 - by "focus priority shutter release" I mean the ability to instruct NOT to allow shutter release (ie FULL depression of the shutter button" UNTIL focus is achieved and confirmed. I have this feature on all my NIKON and OLY pro and prosumer level cameras as well as my Panasonic GH1 (just got this little beauty and love it). I'm asking the question on behalf of a friend who just got the LEICA V-LUX 1. Thanks in ad

My ViviCam T328 shutter function will not work properly. There are 2 functions to the shutter button: The pre-focus and the actual shutter function that takes the picture. Camera shuts down after shutter button is pressed. It shuts down halfway through the shutter operation. Everything else works fine-reviewing pictures, settings in menu, focusing, exposure settings etc. The camera focuses ok when the shutter button is half pressed then when you press the shutter button fully, the mirror goes up, shutter appears to open then the camera shuts down with no power. Shutter speed very slow and has trouble focusing. When I press the the shutter button it takes several seconds before it takes a picture if at all. It seems as though it is having trouble focusing and when it does take a picture it is useally out of focus.

There is a diaphragm between the shutter button and the shutter switch that causes the camera to focus before the shutter is pressed all the way down. It is likely that the diaphragm is punctured and needs to be replaced. There is also a small p ... Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 Digital Camera

To adjust the focus on the camera you are suppose to press the shutter button halfway down and it will lock your focus in and then press the shutter button again and take the picture. It was working fine and the next time I turned my camera on this option would not work. I try the press the shutter button down halfway the it does nothing. All I can do now it press it all the way to take the picture. I have an Olympus E-420 digital SLR camera.

My IR-500 will not focus whether I lock focus or not. When I half depress the shutter & get the green light I press the shutter & then get a severe motion blur. This occurs in all scene modes. It does not happen when using flash. Please advise -jim

I was at a basketball game last night and taking pictures with the d80 and the 55-200 lens. All of the pictures I took in auto focus were blurry. I changed it to the S mode with shutter speed at 4000 and those pictures came out completely dark with nothing in the picture. I changed the setting to the sports mode and the shutter speed is not fast enough because I have the same issue with blurring or out of focus.

Poor focus I am using the Nikon d80 with a Sigma 24-70 mm lens. I am not satisfied with the crispness of the photos. I have tried shutter speeds of 1/500 and higher, using a tripod, and using shutter delay to get better clarity and sharp focus, but none has worked. The quality is not as good as my 2 meg Sony! D60: I just got back from Certified Repair group where they said the camera is "okay". The Problem: It's like the ISO has shifted, and the readings on P, S, A, even M all result in a long exposure/wide open aperture reading. Frequently the reading is such that the shutter will not release, due to no focus or wrong light amount. Frequently the focus "peep" does not go off, and so the shutter will not release.
