Nikon 18-55mm AF-S/ VR lense shudder?

\015 I am using a Nikon (D5000) with a 18-55mm AF-S and VR lense. When I press the shutter button down to see the focus and release the shutter back..I hear and feel a ticking/buzzing sound and also see a slight shudder (movement)in the lense optics (view finder). When I fully press the shutter button down to take a picture it is fine. This only happens when I press the shutter and release it without taking a picture. Do I have a problem with my lense/camera. I also found the same thing happen on another demo D5000 camera with the 55-200mm AF-S /VR nikon lense. Thanks\015

Answers :

I believe you're hearing the VR in the lens adjusting. Try turning the VR off and see if you hear the sound. If not, then you have a normal operating lens.
I do have the same problem. i also have D5000. i think the VR mechanism is the reason.

I found a Quantaray 55-52 mm step down ring (Manufacture # 241664614) on Wolf Camera's website that I am interested in purchasing, but want to make sure it would work for me. I have some close up lenses (Hoya) for my old Canon SLR film camera (55mm) and was hoping I could use those lenses on my newer Nikon DSLR (52mm) camera. Would the step down ring make it possible to attach and use my old camera's close up lenses on my new DSLR camera? Thanks, Jerry

No. The 55-52mm step-down ring will let you attach a 52mm attachment onto a lens with a 55mm thread. You want a 52-55mm step-up ring. ... Digital Cameras

Having trouble with my Nikon D5000 recognising new lenses. How do I fix this problem. I have a Phoenix 650-1300mm f/8-16MF Lens and also a Samyang 800mm F8.0 SLR Interghangable lens. My Nikon D 5000 will not recognise these lenses including the nikon 55-200mmVR Zoom Lens. It comes up on the screen, Lens not attached. Because of this it will not take any pictures and I cannot control the appiture or Fseting. Thank you, David MacLeod.

You might want to have a little look inside the mount on the camera body and make sure you haven't moved the little metal clip there. (I think it was on the left as you look at the open front of the camera). There was a thing on the Nikon web site ab ... Nikon Digital Cameras

Do all nikon lenses mount the same or are the digital cameras difrent? I own a nikon 6006 camera and want to know if i can use my lenses with the D90 or do I need to get diffrent lenses?

Yes and no. Physically they will all fit (with very rare exceptions, such as the 6mm f/2.8 fisheye). Most Nikon dSLRs have a sensor that is smaller than a frame of 35mm film. What this means is that you end up using only the central area o ... Nikon D90 Body Only Digital Camera

Broken lense my lense bought in Sept 08 broke in April 09 sent it back to Nikon, they claimed that it was impact damge (broken plastic fixings) and refused to fix it with out payment. After 3 months of arguing I said fine return it to me broken then, they are now holding the lense hostage demanding £10 payment to return it. Chap in local camera shop says it is the third one with the same problem he has seen recently and in each case Nikon have claimed impact damge and refused to fix the len

Crash I greatly enjoyed the D70 until it suddenly stopped taking pictures. I got the dreaded ERR message. WE tried different batteries, lenses, cards, etc., but to no avail. This is a real bummer. I have used Nikons for 30 years. Currently, my F100 is also at Nikon. The back latch catches simply cracked and fell off! Plastic.A couple of years ago, the self-timer stopped working and Nikon had to replace the software circuits. (The warranty had run out.)

The D70 has a reset button at the bottom of the camera. Firts of all, I think you have checked you have the correct lens inserted (at least D mount) and well done, checked your memory card is correctly inserted, and if you have another, change it.Che ... Nikon D70 Digital Camera with 18-50mm Lens

I have Nikon D50 (11 months old) with two NIKON lenses - 18-55 (came with camera) and 70-300 (from my old Nikon F65). I have recently noted a spot appear in certain shots (mainly where sky is present) that is there in the same place whichever lens I use. Could this be a dust speck or similar on the CCD? If so, is there an easy way of cleaning the sensor? Regards Roland Zilz UK
