Having problems with your Nikon D5000 Digital Camera ?
I changed the lens on my D5000 and forgot to turn off the camera. Is there any damage that can be done.
It's possible, though not too likely. But please don't get in the habit of changing lenses while powered on. You never know when something bad might happen.
You should be safe.

Nikon Coolpix s220...Lens Error. Camera was dropped from like 5 inches. Immediately received the error message screen. The lens is stuck all the way out...I have tried to do some of the above and while twisting the lens slightly got it to take pictures again, I think it may have done more damage because its still makes a buzzing noise when I turn it on and there is black on a portion of the screen like the cover is partially stuck (inside the camera).

Power?? My camera turns on and the lens part extends out, but the screen is totally blank. When I switch it to view previous photos, it works fine..I just have to turn it "off" and the pictures come up..But if I switch it to take a picture, it goes completely dark again...it's almost three years old and has no damage done to it...

My d5000 fell on the floor and the filter glass of the lens broke. i tried taking pictures to see if it's still working but the view from the viewfinder is darker than usual and it would not take pics even if i press the shutter release button. should broken filter glass prevent taking pictures or does this mean there is another damage to the camera apart from the broken filter glass?
The filter should have nothing to do with the images recorded on camera (I assume it's an UV- or skylight filter).I'd say there's some more serious damage to your camera and you should take it to an authorized dealer repair shop. ... Nikon D5000 Digital Camera
My D5000 was dropped onto a stone floor from 4 feet height. It is operating without any obvious malfunction. The 18 - 55 mm lens gets stuck at 45 mm but can be forced to 55 mm without much effort. Should I have the camera looked at or just be thankful that I was very lucky in not having serious damage?

Camera lens movement mechanism seems to be damaged, as when switched on, the camera lens does not extend out completely and the object appears blurred on the screen. Similarly when switched off, the lens does not retract back completely and it needs a manual push to put it in a little more. But even then it does not go in fully. Rest of the functions are working well. The damage is the result of an accidental body weight going on the camera, when it was in on condition.

The camera will not turn on after being dropped. When I switch it from off to on, the green power LED flashes briefly. The lens does not move or attempt to extend. I have a Nikon D40X camera with two lenses - one is 18-55 and the other is 55-200. Unfortunately, when I was at a wedding rehearsal, my 55-200 lens dropped off the pew on to the ground. It was not on the camera at the time and it has not worked properly ever since. My camera works properly with the 18-55 lens. Is there anything that can be done to fix it? I have a D5000 camera w/ kit lens VR 55-200, less than a year old. Recently and only occasionally what is happening is when I press the shutter release button, the lens won't focus, it won't move in or out and it makes a odd noise, not the usual lens motor noise, but an odd squeaking noise, like it's trying to move but is stuck. The only way to correct it is to either shut the camera off and turn it back on again, or switch to manual focus, then back to auto. The battery is full, so it's not

My 2 year old son dropped the my husband's Canon G11 twice while it was open with the lens out. Now the lens won't retract or the shutter close. It gives me a 'lens error, restart camera' message and won't restart. I tried taking out the battery for a few minutes and replacing it and reopening the camera, but to no avail. I'm afraid of taking it to someone and having it opened as I know that the chances of damaging it that way are bigger. Please provide me with your soonest reply. Rania
