Having problems with your Nikon D50 Digital Camera ?

Nikon D50 Autofocus

\015 I bought my D50 back in 2006, but took about a year hiatus from it due to my only lens breaking. I bought a new lens this year for it and used it for about 3 days before the autofocus stopped working. I can use the AE-L AF-L button beside the viewfinder and it will autofocus fine, but when I half-press the shutter, it doesn't autofocus at all. What I'm wondering is if someone would know whether that denotes a problem in the lens I just bought, or the camera body itself. I guess I'm hoping its the lens since that's still covered in the warranty, but any answer would be extremely helpful. Thanks for your time.\015

Well, a friend of mine was able to fix mine fortunately. I am such a beginner with cameras that the only thing that was wrong with mine was a setting in the menu (d'oh!).. Yours sounds really weird though and I wish I knew more about cameras to be able to help you. I'd suggest taking it to a camera store soon and asking if this is a common issue or if they know what part could control such odd behavior. Hopefully someone else on here will read yours and post some better advice, sorry I don't know enough to help, good luck with it though!
MaiaM,

I am having a similar problem with my D50's shutter. My problem seems to be related to the position of the camera. If I rotate the camera vertically to the left - it functions fine. Rotated to the right - it acts as is as if the shutter button is not working at all. Horizontally positioned - the shutter works about 85%of the time. Is your problem positionally influenced as well?

I own a Nikon D50 and the 55-200 lens will not autofocus (lens continually extends then retracts but never locks into focus). Ive read that depressing the lens release button whilst holding the lens in place and swivelling the lens a couple of times sometimes works (cleans muck off the sensors). I tried this but to no avail. Any halp would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Nikon D50 I have been reading through Fixya to try and find a similar problem. I have a Nikon D50 and have been using it with no problems for over a year. However, now when I try to take photos in AF, nothing happens. It locks up. So, I have to try to take photos in manual. Some come out OK and others not. Very frustrating as I missed lots of xmas pics. When I hit the AF-L button, it seems to work in AF mode. Any suggestions?? [email protected]

I'm not sure I understand the problem, but I'll give it a try anyway - on the D50 you can choose the point of focus (1 out of 5 spots). If you're in 'all automatic' (A) mode, the point of focus is selected automatically by the camera. In other modes, ... Nikon D50 Digital Camera

I have Nikon D50 (11 months old) with two NIKON lenses - 18-55 (came with camera) and 70-300 (from my old Nikon F65). I have recently noted a spot appear in certain shots (mainly where sky is present) that is there in the same place whichever lens I use. Could this be a dust speck or similar on the CCD? If so, is there an easy way of cleaning the sensor? Regards Roland Zilz UK
