These are snapshots of my family and I don't want to have to fix each of them in post production. I would like to hear from membe

I have a Canon zoom lens EF-5 18-55mm for my Canon EOS 450D. I am having trouble with my AF. If I set it on AF it will not focus automatically, but if I manually turn the lens for a close up it will then take the picture. Then and only then will the AF for long distance shot come into operation! After taking that shot it reverts back to not focussing. What can I do, if anything, to rectify this malfunction?
