You have locked on to the af-l and it won't default. There are a couple things you can do, where is the book? I can try to explain it, but,,,, In the menu, go to the pencil logo, 03, AF area mode, Dynamic mode, your multi selector button should go round to the 5 points in the view finder. Now the focus lock, when the picture is in focus, it will be in the view finder as a circle with ( ) around it, with the shutter button held down half way, hit the AE-L, AF-L button. it will remain locked, Go back to the menu, pick the pencil again, select the AE, AF lock, and go through the menu there to default your settings, or see if it is locked on, or change the settings, I have mine on auto and hold, the single ones, af ae are off. Now that I am totally confused, you must be too. Hope this works.
Probably it is nothing wrong physically with it ..(lets hope) and the logically step for you to make is to restore the original factory settings by making a general reset ...Go to main menu ..and look for reset settings ...or initial settings ..or default factory settings ...something like that ..and engage the feature...This should be the easy way ..cause the menu is probably complicated enough and you may miss the setting for enabling the feature again ...This may be just caused by a mode changing into one that does not supports the feature..so ..If it does not have the general reset ..you may consider to change the mode to standard ..if you use another one ...and see if the feature is back or not..

Nikon 18-200mm VR lens doesn't seem to want to AF focus at full focal length 200mm distance. I bought this lens second hand on ebay and am not certain if there is a problem with this lens. If I try to shoot a picture at full focal length indoors it seem to be fine or relatively close shots but out side, full distance shots it wont work. The focal ring is at full focus and just turns with no change in the view finder but it needs more. Nikon D80. It worked fine until recently (maybe after I took pictures during whale-watching in a heavy rain and camera got wet). Now the view in the viewfinder is kind of greyish and blurry. Focus area brackets in the viewfinder are now always visible and white. And when I half-press the shutter button the whole viewfinder flashes in red color. Basically, the camera still works and takes pictures, but it is hard to see through the viewfinder and it behaves very strangely.

Seems like your problem on greyish/blurry viewfinder is caused by the camera getting water logged. Get your cam cleaned by Nikon.\015\012\015\012The flashing red light usually happens if you have this indicator set in the camera. This m ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

Focus malfunction I have been shooting with my D70 for a little over a year now with absolutely no problems. I shot with it last weekend with no problems. However, yesterady when I took my camera out to use it I realized that my autofocus single area option won't let me change from one focus area point to another. It is stuck on the center focus area. Even stranger when I tested the autofocus on the closest subject mode it is capable of locking on each of the five focus points. Does anybody know

I was at a basketball game last night and taking pictures with the d80 and the 55-200 lens. All of the pictures I took in auto focus were blurry. I changed it to the S mode with shutter speed at 4000 and those pictures came out completely dark with nothing in the picture. I changed the setting to the sports mode and the shutter speed is not fast enough because I have the same issue with blurring or out of focus.

Poor focus I am using the Nikon d80 with a Sigma 24-70 mm lens. I am not satisfied with the crispness of the photos. I have tried shutter speeds of 1/500 and higher, using a tripod, and using shutter delay to get better clarity and sharp focus, but none has worked. The quality is not as good as my 2 meg Sony! Is this to be expected from the 10 meg cameras? thanks! [email protected]

I have a Nikon Coolpix L110. When I take pictures, they often look yellow. I can get the color to correct by focusing on a nearby area, but when I return to the shot I want to take, the color almost always goes back to a yellowish cast.
