Nikon D80 Dark Viewfinder and Slow Shutter Speed
\015 Hi, \015\012I have owned my Nikon D80 for the past 2 years now and just recently encountered a problem with it. I was taking some pictures at a baby shower when my viewfinder suddenly went dark (about 50% less light). I was using my friend's Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens for the first time so I thought maybe this had something to do with the aperture or something of that sort. When I remove the lens and put it back on I can see clearly through the viewfinder until I take a picture again and it goes back to dark. Same thing happens if I put the lens back on and push the DOF preview button. What's the problem with my camera? I have put on various lenses and this is done on each and every one of them. Please help me out.\015
At first it sounds like a faulty aperture blade that is stuck after your first press. However you mentioned that this happened in other lenses as well. Seems to me that there is a problem with your camera (e.g. mirror lockup problem or something else). Pls have it looked at by Nikon

Nikon D80 with a Sigma Lens (80 to 200 I think). In manual mode, often shutter won't release - this was a close up of a hummingbird with a fast shutter speed. Internal light meter showed underexposed, but the background was dark green. Initially, the shutter released, but later would not operate either with a remote, or by manually depressed the shutter release button. Switching back to auto, the camera seemed to work fine, but in this mode could not get the desired shutter speed. In full manual

I was at a basketball game last night and taking pictures with the d80 and the 55-200 lens. All of the pictures I took in auto focus were blurry. I changed it to the S mode with shutter speed at 4000 and those pictures came out completely dark with nothing in the picture. I changed the setting to the sports mode and the shutter speed is not fast enough because I have the same issue with blurring or out of focus.

Dark exposure I have a Nkon D40x. Setting the selector to Auto, Shutter or Appature(SP) the image comes out dark. The historgram shows a spike that is totally contained in the first quarter of the screen. When I use the manual setting the image improve as the shutter speed was slowed down (1/80sec and ~7f the image improves). Any guess as to what is happening?

Nikon D80. It worked fine until recently (maybe after I took pictures during whale-watching in a heavy rain and camera got wet). Now the view in the viewfinder is kind of greyish and blurry. Focus area brackets in the viewfinder are now always visible and white. And when I half-press the shutter button the whole viewfinder flashes in red color. Basically, the camera still works and takes pictures, but it is hard to see through the viewfinder and it behaves very strangely.
Seems like your problem on greyish/blurry viewfinder is caused by the camera getting water logged. Get your cam cleaned by Nikon.\015\012\015\012The flashing red light usually happens if you have this indicator set in the camera. This m ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

Hi. I am on vacation in the Indian Ocean islands at this moment with a brand new Nikon D90 + 18-105 lens. Was taking photos this morning. From one shot to another, the camera suddenly stopped working. When I press the shutter button, it still focuses and when I click through, I can hear the shutter clicking (tried this with different shutter speeds). However, no photo is captured/stored. Also, the Lv button no longer works. When I press it, the camera is unable to switch from viewfinder to LCD l

Poor focus I am using the Nikon d80 with a Sigma 24-70 mm lens. I am not satisfied with the crispness of the photos. I have tried shutter speeds of 1/500 and higher, using a tripod, and using shutter delay to get better clarity and sharp focus, but none has worked. The quality is not as good as my 2 meg Sony! Incorrect metering I have a Nikon D40x. About every 100 or so frames that i take, there is a problem with the Nikon Metering system. It incorrectly chooses the Aperture and Shutter Speed. Outdoors, it sometimes overexposes pictures. Indoors, it makes them very dark or black. Should i take this in to get it fixed? I have extended warranty...Alas, this is an intermittent problem. Focus problems I have 2 digital cameras already so I know to hold the button down 1/2 way for focusing. The Nikon is new. I HATE manuals. I am having trouble focusing on close up shots. They are either real blurry or slightly out of focus. It seems the shutter speed is so slow that any movement of my hand ruins the shot. I can take a shot of something, a plant for instance, pulled in fairly close. One shot may be ok and the next one is blurry
There are two likely reasons for the blurry pictures. One possibility is, as you surmised, a slow shutter speed. Try mounting the camera on a tripod or other stable support. You might also try turning on the flash. The other reason is focu ... Digital Cameras
