Nikon Auto focus problem with the 18-135 KIT lense

\015 Hello, \015\012 I have a Nikon D-80 that I bought with the Kit lense 18-135. All of a sudden the auto focus function seemed to have stopped working. I am looking for help to resolve this issue.\015

I had this problem and just realised it today. I found out that it was a a settings problem. What I had done without realising was I had my "AE-lock" button functioning as "AF-ON" which meant that my autofocus would only turn on when I held the shutter half-way and pressed that button. Once I turned this function back to its original state of "AF-Lock" as opposed to "AF-ON", it worked fine.\015\012
\015\012My symptoms were:\015\012• soft mechanical noise when holding the shutter (i thought it was trying to focus but couldn't. I thought the mechanics for the AF were faulty)\015\012• Couldn't take photos unless they were in the set conditions (which makes sense because it was locked on a certain setting until I pressed the AF-ON button).\015\012
\015\012My camera is only a few months old so I wasn't convinced it was faulty/broken. Make sure you test all of your settings and go through each of them before you chalk it down to equipment error.\015\012
\015\012Hope this helps.
Hi i am camera repairer from mumbai,i think 18-135 or 18-55 or 18-200or 18-70 any of these lenses from nikon are using the same magnetic sensor based technology to recognise the focusing distance.but these sensor fails due to its physical contact & ware & tare nikon has to make them stronger or locally distribute them to repairers at 1(lens):5(sensors) free of cost & for that you end users has to put pressure on company.or abondon their product straightway. warm regards fromSAGHA

I am new to photography so I know I probably sound like

You have to hold the shutter\015\012down halfway as you compose the first shot so the AF system can focus\015\012and lock, and then the camera fires instantaneously when you press the\015\012shutter the rest of the way. ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

My Nikon P80 Coolpix started to have problem focusing. Auto focus now only occasionally works (it can sometimes focus and the green "in focus" indicator would come on). Most times, the auto focus does not work (the display and the actual pictures are all blurred). It's not covered by the warranty any more (more than 2 years after we bought it). Any ideas?

I was using my Nikon D40 at son's baseball game with the 55-200 mm lens & was too close to the fence when zooming since it tapped the fence. Now it makes a squeaky noise when trying to auto focus. This camera focuses the lens by sending an electronic signal to it. If you hear a clicking sound, the lens is receiving the signal, but not responding. I suggest you take the camera & lens to a local photo store & ask if they could let you mount anot ... Nikon D40x Digital Camera

Focus Problem I recently took the camera apart to fix the zoom. lens would not come out. Fixed it all good now goes in and out smothly. Now the pics are fuzzy out of focus. has auto focus 2' too infinity. Wiped the lenses off while i was in there with a lens cloth from binoculars. Maybe not well enough and it might have a film on it. Would that make the pics fuzzy or out of focus? Or is there something else?

A small amount of dirt on the lens would just produce some flare and redule overall contrast slightly. It wouldn't produce a grossly out of focus image. Either you misaligned something or you messed up the autofocus system somehow.\015\012\015\012Can ... Fuji FinePix 2650 Digital Camera

My Nikon D5000 gives out blurry pictures and the auto focus sometimes does not work. I've sent the lens to be examined & repaired and today I tested it again after being repaired. Today I took a picture of a person standing in front of a wooden fence and instead of focusing on the person (which was my intention), the camera focused on the fence. The result: The fence is sharp but the person is blurry. What causes this? Is it the lens or the body? How can I solve these problems?
