Nikon d80 won't expose sometimes on start up

\015 When I turn on my D80 set in the Auto or P mode, I can't make the camera fire. When I first bought the camera, it would fire immediately on start up. Now, I seem to have to focus on a close object and make it fire once before I can proceed\015

I had the same problem, more often than not it wouldn't focus or shutter release, seemed to be lens to body contact problem so I sent the camera back to Nikon UK. They returned it "repaired" but the fault came back. Went back to retailer (Jessops) and they exchanged for new camera after nearly 12 months. So far so good!
It almost sounds like your lens is not solidly on the body. I remember having a similar problem with a lens. Try starting the camera on A or S priority mode and see it you still have the problem. And check the lens mount.

I have a Nikon D80 camera that is about 1 year old. I has worked fine until about 6 months ago. Sometimes when I turn it on and press the button to take the picture nothing happens. I have to wait awhile and keep playing with the button and then it will finally take the picture and act normal. This happens inside and out. Sometimes the flash will pop up outside in direct sunlight. Do I have some settings wrong or why is it acting like this?

Are you getting a Err message? If so The ERR message is not a good thing. Read page 132 of the D80 Manual. Also, try a factory reset found on page 129 of the manual. On the left side of the camera is the terminal cover, inside below the USB connector ... Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

I have a Nikon D80. Whilst at Yosemite National Park a few weeks ago, where it was extremely cold I noticed that my camera would not take photo. After a few tries, it started working fine again. However, yesterday the shutter started sticking, and the ERR message showed on the screen. Then I can take one photo, and same thing happens again.
